Finished another snot base too.

I'd say there's avatar material in the bottom right snot there. He's got a great, vacant expression. Sort of like he's been whacking himself over the head in exultation over the ongoing fight.

Love Lug, Stug and Bowel. They're amongst my favourite ork minis and you've nailed the painting right down to the purple lip. The patterning on Lug's armour is a very nice touch!

Your "sloppy" painting is a bit like Ramshackle Curtis' sculpting; creative, wild, zany and maybe a bit rough upon closer inspection - but tons of fun! I'd take that any day over meticilously blended gradients and razor sharp edges with no soul.

If I see one are for possible improvement, it would be Wong's pants (skirt?). The yellow and red could do with darker separating lines for added contrast between the colours.

Loads more cool stuff :)

I dont recognise "Wong". Is that a Citadel figure? A 40K Citadel figure even?

I'm not thaaaat fond of these nobs... they start looking a bit to grim/dark for my tastes

I wasnt so keen on those sculpts when they were released, but I have been considering picking up a couple recently. Its the fact that the models bridge the gap between the RT armoured orks (cute characters) and the later armoured orks (industrial machinery driven by an unthinking monster) that I like in fact. They are large, dangerous looking armoured orks that retain a certain amount of personality.

This. There is such a thing as too much detail in a miniature sculpt.

yup

take a look at the new GW chaos warshrine. It has lots of really nice parts but there is way too much going on when it's all together.

I generally have no idea about these things... I just happily paint what comes my way!

Tried to lively up the yellow and red.

My camera is notorious for not picking up the nuances in red though... While it looks almost flat here, the edges of the red are actually almost Bordeaux while the middle is orange. I've given up on trying to fix it with the camera and will just have to buy a new one at some point... :?

Also Picasa that I use for sharing has a really annoying function that it edits my images and 'fixes' them when I upload them. Does anyone know where this can be turn off permanently? It is annoying to have to sit and do it all the time (also because I forget it sometimes!) and I generally don't like if the images get edited.

I have one of those Bad Moon Nobz. I remember at the time they were released they didn't look too bad but the later stuff made me look down on them a fair bit compared to both the characterful RT era ones as well as the fierce looking 2nd edition 40K ones. I have certainly mellowed with age as I was planning on painting him up to lead a mob of the RT era ones. He reminds me of a Mantic Orx now that I look at him again.

Thanks for the info :)

That model makes a great Weirdboy. I have this old Savage orc shaman lined up as my vaguely Snake-Bite-y Weirdboy once I work out how to sci-fi him up a bit, but I prefer Wong.

How peculiar!!! I had the intention of using that exact same weirdboy! I have him lying around... somewhere!

Only trouble was that I couldn't find the bugger in my pile when I painted Wong.

There is something very appealing about that model. It fits well with a homogenised, Hollywood take on the "Witch Doctor"trope, which is just what I want from my toy soldiers, especially orks. Broad stroke definitions.

I was thinking the other day that the movie Gremlins 2: The New Batch took the amusing but scary little guys and turned them into a macabre version of the Muppet Show, like going from RT orks to Ere We Go orks. That movie is a good template for RT ork armies I think. Potentially threatening, but primarily played for laughs and featuring loads of ludicrous little offshoots and variations.

I wandering off a bit there, but Im sure that you know what I mean...

Yeah, I nearly painted a gremlin on the front of this one if you noticed:

8-)

I did not notice before now, thats an inspired idea. I would never even think to do that with an Aquila (and now I want to do it to every Aquila)

A gremlin hood ornament is almost as cool as the firing mechanism on that vehicle. Almost.
