Space Orks...the other Boyz

Thank you kindly guys.
I have so many of the Space Crusade Orks about I feel compelled to press some into service when the chance arises.
The way their arms are posed are kind of perfect for restraining a gibbering Warphead :)

That's a top idea for your Skallywags Cheetor, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for him.
I have most of the Weirdboys, they really ooze character in a range that oozing character is the norm and I've toyed with the idea of painting them one after the other but as we all probably know you've gotta save minis like that for a reward when you've completed a unit or something otherwise you end up with a heap of personalities and no troops (at least I do)

Also, it's peculiar that you don't see more painted Weirdboys floating around the net...

Nearly finished, another mini mob like this and the Deathskulls are done.

Cheers Suber, I rushed the weapons to take the pic in sunlight and they need a little work but otherwise I'm pretty happy :)

With all the Pirate Orks Cheetor has been displaying lately I'm really tempted to take on Badrukk and the Flash Gitz next, but then again Psieker's Blood Angels make me wanna do some Beakies...

Orks with skulls and big heavy weapons... you don't want anyone to miss that, let's paint them blue !
Deathskulls are probably one of my favourite ork clan, their bright colours makes them look like jungle creatures all more venomous than the other.
They are great Bruno, give them some pirate friends, beakies can wait !

Death Skulls are at the bottom of my ork to-do list. The others all seem to have some shtick going for them but the DS not so much.

Th thing that will get me painting a mob of them will be the urge to paint some ork faces blue I think.

Nice work CVB, they look classic :)

Cheers as always guys ;)

I've never been much of a DS fan either, but they've been quite rewarding to paint. I struggle with the motivation to get the weapons done for some reason though and if they didn't have a specific role for (possible, future) games I would have given them boltas and so on.
As everybody probably knows, blue is one of the easier colours to get looking good with minimal effort and assigning the paint on their faces has been the most enjoyable elements of this little assignment.
They do have that rag tag, jungle vibe- I have a large amount of Snakebites to do at some point that excel in that area...they were going to be the next cab off the rank but the Flash Gitz may just be next-I've sworn to really go to town on them though and there will be no corner cutting!

Cool 8-)

Are they all dedicated freebooter pirate models? Im guessing that you have a load of those oddball freebooter pirate boyz in addition to the characters, all with that late RT/early second ed atmosphere.

Am I right?

You're right, it's a 20 strong mob- everything on the Freebooters catalogue page except the Stormboy, plus some extras like FB cybork, and kustom kombi weapons aplenty

Very nice. Are you going to go with multiple patterns on them like the old studio PJs? Going full Disney in other words? I hope so :)

You dont do things by halves Bruno, Ill give you that.

I like how you are sticking at these guys all the way too. I couldnt work on the same army indefinitely like that any more. Are you aiming to have one (or more) of each unit in the second ed Codex? It certainly looks that way. While I doubt that I will ever play another game of second edition, having a unit of each of the choices has lots of appeal. Having one of each of the entries in "Freebooters" is something that I am considering tackling. More research required.

Jesus, that sounds terrible   Its just enthusiasm for a common project, not my anal-retentive control freakishness kicking in, honest ;) I am the last person in the world who should be giving education/exam/study advice...

I have to make up for nearly 20 years of painting very little!

It's a bit hazy, but when I decided to "oldhammer" in 09 the Freebooterz were one of the top priorities- no quarter!

I must point out that I'm not entirely a second ed guy, my "golden age" is actually that transitional period between RT and 2nd circa WD 150's and Space Crusade, I'm more comfortable with RT than the late 90's stuff- I'm rather keen to dip my toes into the RT rules at some point.

PS: haha, it's not terrible at all- you guys always give me rock solid advice and Cheetor is a man who knows his Orky wots!

A Boss to lead them, who has taken me ages to finally finish.
Unusually for me, he has modern arms and weapons- but they look pretty cool on him I think.

The pose on the boss is great. The low slung paired pistols give him a cool gunslinger look not commonly seen on irks.

That gunslinger nob is pretty good, and somehow the new arms don't look to bad on him despite the fact that I have a bunch of them sitting in my bits box and I can testify that they are gi-goddamn-normous. I'm definitely stealing that pistolero look.

God, it's so liberating not having to care that a pistol in each hand is a terrible weapon choice.
