Space Crusade returns!

Prodos games are releasing 'something' called Space Crusade, wether it's mechanicaly equiilivant to MB games Space Crusade or just called Space Crusade, will be a subject no doubt for much speculation.

And yes, Prodos have registered "Space Crusade" as a trademark (in the UK at least) and are using it legitimately.

and stuff like:

which is totally oldhammer, because, well:

Marine girls with armor everywhere except on the breast and the low part of the back xD. Some of the worst desings I`ve seen for years. Only for teenagers with an onanism compulsion :ugeek:

Didn't Gamezone attempt to register Space Hulk when they first started their Heroquest?

The models aren't for me, but the carry-on about this game on other forums is pretty amusing!

Damn, I thought it's going to be a Specialist Game :( .

I wonder if it's John Blanche's early attempt at femme militante XD ?

Which fits perfectly with the target audience so in that sense its great design ;)
What kind of people fap at gaming table?

Anyway, sexual stuff is covered by Slaanesh. And in case of combat exhibitionism, there are power fields and stuff like that. No need to make ultra-stupid power armour.

Obviously people aren't going to buy the set for that now are they. But it is marketed at the adolescent male so showing a bit of boob and arse is gonna draw the interest of their desired customer. Sex sells, and when its linked with chunky hardcore super awesome armour it'll sell more.

Er, what has Slaanesh got to do with these guys releasing a game? GW is Slaanesh and this ain't GW. I'm not quite sure I see your point! Are you saying they missed the trick and with power fields then the ladies could be totally naked

THis is in no way Space Crusade returning. The game is nothing like SC. Its just a cynical marketting ploy. I feel abused!
Agreed. Its not the old Space Crusade in anything but name. Ah well, if they have legitimate use of the name then fair enough. We'll have to just ignore it and accept that with time comes progress... or something

It certainly seems to have brought out the Puritan brigade with their torches and pitchforks!

euwwwwww! That's seven fetishes too far for me

That's perhaps the least "fetish" model in my eyes. We have plenty of fat, mostly naked "not Nurgle" worshiping models/art already, this one just happens to be female.

Hey, I'm actually *almost* offended by it all, and I still find much of the commentary amusing. I wouldn't touch it, but the people shouting "now what will people think of my hobby?" are the best. Do I assume people mean pornography every time they say they're a big film/movie fan?* How about books?

*OK, only if they wink as they say "movie".

It's being well received on the company's official FB page

That is pretty funny! I guess any publicity is good...

It's a shame about Prodos. A decent (OK, I've really only seen the models, not rules) modern update to an older system with Warzone, a games based on excellent IP with Alien vs Predator which has had all sorts of problems and now a pretty desperate move - copy a familiar name without anything to do with the original and add boobs to Space Marines. Actually, it might work if what they've said is true (that they've already sold* better than some of the best selling Warzone releases).

* Pre-ordered. There are some who doubt that the models will ever exist!

Ha!

I should clarify, I'm mostly opposed to this for "purist" rather than "puritanical" reasons. I'm no fan of female miniatures with exposed breasts and buttocks, but if that were the only issue I would completely ignore it. The real problem is the shameless stealing of the name 'Space Crusade' for a project which is nothing to do with the original.

Give the guys a break, they need to sell something on pre-order so they can afford to get AVP to everyone who gave them money through the AVP kickstarter to fund their previous game... then when this one eventually doesn't get made nobody will care because it looks awful. ;)

Exactly ^

See, I like how Artists like Bisley push it up to 11 :

Everything is exagerated (male characters wear about as much and are about as much exagerated too)

Now Prodos is only trying to shoehorn as much fanservice as they can into a single model.

This is pushing it to 11 too :

This on the other hand is no more than a 9.5 (and therefore just plain boring for me):

I think JB has the right of it. The models aren't quite Heavy Metal enough to really work, certain compromises seem to have been made to make them wargamey. Also conceptually the biker girls are probably the most HM, but the rider sculpts are probably the weakest.

I'm not bothered about them using the name Space Crusade, I've no attachment to the brand. But it's interesting thematically:

Phallocentric imagery aside, the Tyranid designs were quite blatantly ripping off HR Giger in one direction...

NECONOM-IV-ORIGINAL-620x400.jpg

Whereas Prodos seems to have gone in another...

But still referencing the biomechanical aspects, the biomech, cyber, alien-skulls and junk-bot bits don't seem to have come together cohesively in the way Giger may have done (but then very few artists can). But maybe a more monochrome paint-job would help. The cuts and splits on the face make Prodos model look more like a mask than skin, still, very good sculpting on that, albeit digital giggery-pokery.

So in some ways it is a reinvention of the first Space Crusade, also note, the Prodos have bothered to make their figures actual crusaders ;)

Noticed that happening more and more in recent years, even on forums that traditionally have a somewhat T 'n A attitude. Are we seeing a shift in what's considered acceptable in the gaming and miniatures world? I'm not sure. It does seem that the pitchforks are selectively jabbed at some projects/manufacturers whilst ignoring others. Sexism and misogyny are terms that appear to only apply to 'crap' miniatures! ;)

I should clarify

I should clarify... I though that in a boob-marine thread, "grabbing my pitchfork" was a euphemism 8-)

Good point Asslessman, the hammer/shield marines are a pretty lazy attempt. If they were more metal, I'd be more interested. They're about as dull as Ninja Division or Soda Pop to me.
