Some BOYL 2026 news

Selfishly I'm rooting for the October date as there's a good chance now I'll be working in Mongolia during the 7-9 August dates (not the first time this has happened)

I think the difficulty is that moving means "move and be ready for an event", which is much harder than just a "move". I can see why Foundry don't want to let it slip even further, much less stressful moving over summer with nice long days than in the damper darker autumnal months!

Anyhow that does also mean the shiny new BOYL website is live! (well depending on what DNS you use)

And yes, it is supposed to look mostly like it looked before, but hey under the hood it's all new :). Whilst bookings are not yet open you can log in using your forum account...

Hey Eric!

Appreciating the situation around the date and moving / not moving - when will table bookings be open please?

I would imagine Garth will "publish" the schedule anytime now given the dates are out, and I think he normally aims to having booking available from about April.

We've just finished moving the BOYL site (I've written a new booking system*) over to my company's hardware (including name servers) so need to give it a few days just for the rest of the Internet to catch up and settle anyway. So I think from April is probably a pretty sure guess.

One other thing to bear in mind with a Foundry move is that there might be some table tweakage. For now we have the same table set as normal ready in the system, but of course depending on quite what space Foundry get and how ready everything is there is some potential that the lineup could need tweaking.

* Which hopefully will survive contact with the enemy

yeah, I know the whole movement is a tricky thing, it was just the 'we are moving this year' for... a few years now ^_^;

I would kinda like to go to BOYL one day but.. kinda appears a bit big and crowded for me (though I can kinda deal with it, it's just in a small area is can be more of a problem) and it being a long distance for that. the last big thing it was still not completely unknown area (London) which has easy transport routes.. Doing a large crowded thing with a unknown area and long way from home added is... trickier.. maybe if things go well this year, next year is an option.. or maybe this year but unlikely this year

Totally get you on that! I must admit not 100% knowing the venue is a bit nerve wracking, but that probably partially comes from relying on public transport! I've not found the crowds too crowded at BOYL in general, it has it's busy moments, but generally (at least at the current venue) it never felt too crazy and you could always just step "outside" (more outside) and you've got nothing but a quiet churchyard and battlefield (minus the soldiers) to de-stress in. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Foundry find/have-found.

@Fimm McCool - sorry, I guess I should have announced it here first. Especially now as we’ve managed to tie the value of this forum into the site.

@everyone else

Thank you for your patience!

BUT - I’ve also been a bad citizen on the forum and generally in the community - I’ve not consumed from a lot of the oldhammer socials for a few months … just because, I suppose…It’s overwhelming and I miss the simplicity of the forum.

ANYWAY, everything that has been said here is true. We’ve been on tenterhooks for a while waiting for Foundry to work it out, but we cheerfully put up with it because they don’t charge us any money for the event. But, I get it is inconvenient from a life planning perspective.

So, I will look to open bookings in April as Eric said.

Re: anxiety of size and site - sadly, I have no idea what the new one will be like yet, so I can’t comment. But, I fully expect they’ll be looking for the same vibe and feel and the plans Diane has mentioned certainly sound excellent. Sadly, it really does depend on finding the ‘right’ venue - sometimes it is banal things like poor road conditions that would affect heavy metal deliveries that are leading to sites being rejected.

More next week!
