Slaves to Darkness (wip)

Well hello there. Been wondering if I should post my chaos army here
After I remade my Bretonnian and Empire armies with historical figures. I took a look at my old hastily painted chaos army and felt a slight gag reflex.
I decided to box most of it. I really dislike the 5 and 6th edition chaos warriors. The 5th because of the hunchback look, and the 6th because of the monotone cape look. Capes are nice, but I don't want entire squads of metal warriors wearing fur, I'll make a Norse army for that.

My ideal chaos warrior look is the old Hero Quest chaos warriors. And the best thing about Hero Quest is that there are still people playing it and sellers to supply their demand.
So I've been gathering a lot of stuff the last few years for my 3rd edition army. Centaurs, Minotaurs, Gorgons and all sort of stuff. But one thing at a time. I've started with my favorite Ketchup boys of the dog guy on the bone throne or something...

This is Mortanic, champion of Khorne and slayer of pointy ears.
He was inspired by the 90s red era. The transfer sheet on the shield took 3 attemps. The surface was fairly rough from the drybrushing and so gathered air underneath, or so I theorize. It just greyed out when I spray varnished it. Finally I decided to just paint over it and smashed some blood over the worst part. The blood effect is glossy and looks very wet, the camera just didn't catch the light from this angle.

This is Lord Small. The miniature is actually quite small. An old 80s Chaos thug if I remember correctly, But I like the look of him so he's been promoted.

And this guy... Lord Somber or something...

My first chaos squad, I decided to make them in groups of 10 rather than 8. That way they can be used with the generic chaos army list in the Warhammer armies book as well as the list in Slaves to Darkness.
I really like how the blood effect running from the skull on the shield turned out. I'm using "Blood for the blood god" from Games workshop, just smearing it all over the shields, weapons and at their feet.

Second unit done. If you pay close attention there's a 6 edition guy second from the left and a 5th edition at the right in the back row.

And of course some two handed warriors. I must say drybrushing red is a very fulfilling experience.

He wasn't very visible in the picture above. But I put one of the very old monotone plastic warriors in the unit just for flavour. I think I have 5 more of these. Took quite awhile stripping the old Humbrol paint off of him. That stuff was made to last...

General Karnak great champion of Khorne.

5 Knights, I Did like the 6th edition knights so I took the lance hands off my 5th edition guys to make them proper. Also my camera has some focusing issues...
There are 5 more knights on the way, not painted yet.

My Khorne force so far, just missing the last knights.

Converting some champions. The one with the sword will be a Tzeentch guy, the other two probably undivided.
That's all for now.

I may do some undivided warriors next, or finish my knights. And Fimir... I definitely need some Fimir allies.
