Slann substitutes?

I'm wondering what options there are to use as slann straight out of the box, with no putty work at all. Any purveyors of fine jungle frog folk out there? Maybe there's a bit of a gap in what's available nowadays? A gap that could be filled by comissioning a few fine sculpts and do a ittle wittle kickstarter project. Just thinking out loud here.

Are there any other races and models that simply are not available from fantasy manufacturers of today? Intergalactic lizard centaurs are one such race that springs to mind, while the cyclopean bog creatures are covered nicely.

I don't want to spoil anything but slanns are part of the range I intend to launch next year as the actual range is pretty small and it's hard to get a full army by getting them one by one from ebay.

For zoats (space or fantasy) it something more delicate as this is a IP that GW created from scratch.

Zoats are a no-no, ofcourse. I doubt lizard centaurs would be a problem.

And it's no spoiling, I have nothing going on. It was merely an idea I had now. Great news to learn someone is allready working on it! =)

Well staying with the Slann:

Barbaric types, or maybe need some head-dresses or GS aztecification.

Otherworld Firenewt

Makes a nice Kremlo?

Ooh, that is exciting!

Yes I know of them, there are also frogmen in the pond wars range from Eureka, but I want something more like the old citadel slanns

Wow the PJs on those Boglings are AMAZING! love them!

And the Firenewt is one of my favorite old school classic D&D races...Otherworlds line is so tempting!

Cheers,

Blue

There is only one fire newt though and I'm not sure it is available Richard has been known to give them out to valued customers though. Hadn't thought of using him as Kremmlo though.

Slann almost need a Mesoamerica look though and as much as I love the boglins they don't do slann for me, any aztecification would need to be close to new figures worth!

Looking forward to Trep's Frogmen. I need blow pipes if you're doing requests. Hopefully there will be some space frog men too?

Oh to answer your question no I can't think of any slann looking frog men.

I will take requests gladly as for now nothing has been decided (except the fact that there will be slanns). Space slanns could also be an option but it will be fantasy first !

The boglings are great figs, but I really dislike the turtle shell shields. Also, as stated - they're not exactly not-slann. Cracking figs with fantastic paintjobs though!

All the Otherworld I have the shields are separate, so a simple swap on the Boglings.

Citadel Bugbears

Also I always thought the old solid-based Bugbears would make interesting additions to s Slann army, maybe some mad genetic mutation experiement gone wrong!

Oh yeah, missed the bit about 'no putty work' required. They'd all require a bit of changing up.

And they're not current either. =) I love that old bugeyed freak though. I once got one of those models in a lot, but it was a bit suspicious looking in the lead quality so I chucked it. Gotta get me some bugbear luvin. The salman warriors you can have for yourself though - they look like they've been sculpted by a drunken Nick Lund with both hands in casts. =D

Hmm not the prettiest fellows ever...

Treps - what about a Palanquin with slave bearers, and more slave warriors - as well as a few frogs!

Not to be a tit, boob or twat... but are new slave models really needed? There must be close to a gazillion suitable standins amongst the many historical and fantasy ranges. What are the requirements? Human, bald and poorly armed.

I think rank and file froggies is where it's at. It's the volume that's needed. If the range is aesthetically backwards compatible with currently oop frogmen of a jungly disposition, you can mix and match with old lead for stuff like palanquins.

The frog on the pedestal is great - rather like him. Bit confused about the cheerleader's anatomy though...

Phreedh, you are of course correct about the rank and file. There is a little bit of an ulterior motive in my request and afraid I'm a lazy bugger when it comes to converting stand-ins. Plus I really like the look of the old slaves.

Linkies for the multitudes of bald and downtrodden slave warriors as well please

Hehe, I'll try to find some but I might have spoken too soon (as usual).

Yeah, but are there anymore? This thread was started a couple of years ago, so I thought I'd try and breathe a bit of life back into it. Maybe there's been a few more additions since then ;)
