Skaven Warband

I've been taking a bit of a backseat with forum postings (everywhere) so apart from a little occasional lurking I'm a bit behind with what everyone is up to. Kind of feel a bit cheeky just popping up out of nowhere and demanding attention but I've finally done some more Oldhammer stuff and wanted to share. Bit of a 'look what I did mummy' thing. More Skaven and pretty much all ye olde Jes Goodwin sculpts (not sure about the one later era model or the giant rats). Bloody good models that I've loved since I first saw them in one of the '86 Citadel Journals back in '88. It was going cheap in the GW bargain bin back when that was still a thing. I've only got as far as collecting one Skaven model though so with these being a commission I'll be sad to see them go.

Wow, time to hang up my brushes I think. They look amazing!

Everything on them looks pretty much flawless, great work.

What a fantastic paintjob, i really tlove he colors and the smouth effect you have and these Skaven are so marvelous.

Cheers,
Martin

Oh my! Those are so gorgeous I 'll have enough tears of joy to thin my paints for a lifetime.

Noone beats the Goodwin, his sculpts are very forgivong to mediocre painters but prove to be absolute gems in the ends of talented folks as yourself. These are just so right on every point, going into details seems irrelevant.

these are great

Any chance I can ask how you did the brown fur?

I varied it a little between models but mostly used a base of either VMC Burnt Umber or VGC Beasty Brown mixed with a little black. Highlight layers used various colours, VGC Desert Yellow, Earth, Khaki, Bonehwhite, Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Brown and maybe a few others. Anything to create subtle differences from one model to another.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Always appreciated.

Very nice!
If you don't mind, I'm curious how you do the bases? I'm trying to get some idea to base up some dungeon-y type chaps, so trying to get an idea on how all these fantastic bases are being done.

Out of curiosity, what's the going rate for work of this quality?

I didn't make the base tops, the client did them. At first I thought they were just pieces of plastic sheet chopped up but underneath the undercoat they appeared to be green so many have been green stuff. When I make tiled bases I tend to use sheets of dried Milliput cut into tiles.

As for the 'going rate', there's the best part of four hundred quids worth of work there.

This band is great! Any chance to have your receipe for the flesh?

It's my usual recipe. VMC Tan Earth highlighted by adding VGC Bonewhite and then a little white. For the base coat I tended to mix the Tan Earth with a bit of the brown base colour for the fur to help blend the transition from fur to skin.
