Scatter Supplier.

The GW Fortified Manor along with a few other bits (notably the walls/fences) are being redone for a bit for "Old World", certainly the walls/fences I think are a good GW bit of scatter. Not quite sure what the release date will be, possibly next Saturday I guess?

Canadian friend said their local gamestore is expecting to stock them at $165CAD so I guess we're looking at about £100, which whilst twice what they were when last on sale (judging by the old listing on Element's website) is better than the second hand price at least!

To save a bit of digging on the GW, sorry "Warhammer" website now they are up for pre-order:
Manor price is better than I thought, in fact all the pricing seems reasonable (given GW pricing).

None are ancient pieces of terrain and I'd say with the detailing on them they generally sit better with newer style of stuff. However nice to see some decent pieces back in production. It does remind me I really must make some hills! I always thought the ruins were a nice piece, but they fall a bit close to "I could make that myself" territory and I think that would be more fun so I'll probably not be adding to the collection.

Might have considered buying some if they didn't have skulls all over. I know the Empire is meant to be religious and obsessed with death but too much is just too much. In general I do prefer home-made terrain over something ready to paint. Even if results don't look as sharp and good the process of creating them makes them way more endearing.

Agreed, the advantage of scratchbuilding your own is exactly total control over those details.

I do understand, though, if someone buys such buildings, because scratch-building them to such detail is quite time consuming. If that is worth the called for prices... matter of personal view.

But what I never understood is the hills, for example. For £26, I can't even imagine how many I could scratchbuild for that amount. And that IS an easy task. Some MDF/ePVC/cardboard for a base, foam for the hill body, and then decorate like your mini bases (sand, flock, grass tufts etc.).
I can't imagine ever buying such kind of most basic terrain.

Build what I can and feel like, buy what looks nice and good priced.. wonder how Scratch building includes designing and cutting laser cut stuff but doesn't include buying predesigned and cut laser cut stuff.. ^_^; and what about predesigned vectors which you cut yourself? ...

Yeah I am not sure if I will buy it and convert it, or buy it and keep it in the box, but use it as a template if it is too much faff to make it less middlehammer.

I am tempted, as it is easy.
I have only just started back on the 25mm WFB path and need to get EVERYTHING all over.
I have been making hedges, fences, woods, buildings, roads and whilst the end results are nice to mine eyes, the thought of not having to buy wood/foam etc and then assemble and all the associated mess is appealing, 2 ready made hills in a fraction of the time it would take to make them and none of the mess.
It will speed up my getting ready to play quite a bit.

A matter of opinion but I don't personally consider these as middlehammer or even to be in spirit of middlehammer. They were released sometime between 2007-2014 or so, I think?

It's actually interesting to think when exactly GW took the ridiculous liking of skulls that they keep to this day.
I have copies of 2nd and 3rd editions Talisman board game and you can really see how skulls started to be more common in artwork with 3rd ed. but that's just art and not actual miniatures laden with skulls.
It must have started in small scale during 5th or 6th edition of WFB and later on, around the time these pieces of terrain were released, it had gone completely out of control; I remember one special character mini of chaos (possibly named Wulfric the wanderer? Wulfric this-or-that anyway) from 7th or 8th ed. on whom I counted at least 13 skulls... That's well beyond absurd.
