RT era Blood Angels

Hey guys, I'm starting planning my next mini (or not) project, some Blood Angels based on my love of some of the old character models and picking up the new Space Hulk I thought a small force would be a fun build!

To counteract the super-modernness of the SH Terminators I thought a squad of RT style camo marines would be a good start but can't find the book that has the pictures of the colour scheme in, can anyone help point it out? I'm referring to the browny-gold one, I seem to remember a plastic BA captain painted in it.

I'm hoping the hivemind can save me trawling through stuff trying to find the right articles so I can get on with my Orctober painting!

Edit: on second thought the scheme I'm thinking of may have been a proto-gold scheme for the leaders am I imagining the camo scheme?

So have I imagined the Blood Angel camo scheme? I may have to just borrow another chapters scheme or use the commander scheme as camo with red feet.

Nope, I myself am going Blood Angels camo scheme. It's WD110. That commander is also in the Combat Cards btw.

For ages I thought it was maybe a version of Menotr Legion, and was set up to do my Mentors this way. But then I looked at the article inside....

That's right, the right shoulder pads have the wings and they are definitely listed as Blood Angels in camouflage colours! Definitely doing my Blood Angels this way!

Wow may have to do a squad in these colours too. I really like the idea of PA "scout" squads as small forces within an army, maybe with a grav transport as support.

Itd be good to collect all the different studio schemes together as a resource if only someone had a pdf collection of the older White Dwarfs they could share....

Apparently these were 'painted with crayon', I don't know how you do that. Does anyone have good ideas about how to get the nice diffused look in miniature? Don't want my Green Marines to be spotty!

I imagine you draw splotches of colour on the miniatures with crayon, leaving some spaces blank, then paint over the lot. When it is dry wipe/rub/scrape off the waxy crayon and you have a nice splotchy effect left behind.
Never tried it though.

Actually makes more sense than using the crayon as a brush to apply the paint...

I wanted to paint up a squad in this camo many years ago buy just couldn't get the splodgy effect right. I tried oil paint too but that just got messy and was too much of a faff. If I had more time to paint I might give it another go.
