Rogue Trader Eldar and a Squat!

I think I might need to block Ebay. Instead of getting my little band of Eldar all painted up and then getting back to my units of Skaven I went and bought more squats. Until now I've always been very strict when buying models but I'll be honest that went out the window when it came to getting more squats. First up a classic biker, I always loved these when they first appeared in WD partly down to the great Paul Bonner art work that went with them. My understanding is that the cancelation of the squat was partly down to these bikers ? If true its a shame as I bloody loved painting it.

nice job. I got an old squat bike for an ork I need to paint up (or more repaint) sometime..

Never heard the bikes being why the range was stopped.. heard it was just they didn't sell well.

My understanding is it had nothing to do with sells, it was more with the direction the squats had gone down. I may be wrong but I'm sure I read something years ago by Jervis Johnson basically saying no one wanted to work on them as they all hated the way they had turned out so they just had them killed off !

I sort of get it as they started off as a unique army and then as time passed they basically became a part of the Imperial guard and then you add in the Hells Angel bikers they never really had a unique clear identity.

Epic 40k started to develop a different theme but hard to replicate at 28mm scale, the few 40k 2nd edition minis attempted the techno-Norse squats, but it really wasn’t different enough from fantasy.
Shame really that they couldn’t invest more time on the faction. The Voltan models may not be to old-skool taste, but leaning into the machine men idea at least makes them a little more distinctive?

I've read that Jervis interview as well, saying that the studio didn't have any ideas or enthusiasm for the squats. A real shame, as the Iron Claw squats were one of my favourite Rogue Trader era ranges.

Painted up another. Wasn't until I undercoated that I realised the figure had had its medic icons removed from his hat and shoulder pad but don't think it takes away and might have been something I did if I'm honest !

Have 2 more to paint up and due to uncertainty over my job will probably be it until that is resolved.

Since I was pointed (Was it by Eric?) To Vallejo's Ultra Matt Varnish, I haven't gone back ^_^
Only problem is trying to see if I've missed a spot for a second coat.. can't tell.
