Rescuing old GW Tyranids.

Borgador

Vassal
I dug through my old Tyranids to see what I had available to build a 10th edition army from.
I had some old Metal termagants,
an old lead version of the original warrior,
2 old Hive tyrants (one converted with "new" plastic Tyrant claws and gun from a 3rd edition plastic kit),
a metal lictor that I had cut up and reposed.
a metal Carnifex that had his arms swapped for epic scale Tyranid titan legs, and had a warrior venom cannon added (since 3rd ed. Let them have guns),
Some metal rippers,
and an old Metal Ravenor.
I named my hive fleet Leviathan LONG before GW came out with their version.
I decided I didn't really want to try my purple and pink color scheme (especially since warlock purple isn't around anymore).
So I stripped them down.

Here's pics of my Carnifex reassembled and on his spiffy new 10th Ed base I digitally kit bashed and printed for him. 20251016_210457.jpg20251016_210518.jpg20251016_210528.jpg20251016_210556.jpg
I'm planning on orange carapace with grey skin. I haven't decided on the color for claws and bony protrusions yet. Any suggestions?

40K is on 10th now? yikes..
can't say I'm a fan of Tyranids.. While is why I use my genestealers (which I have.. very little done up) more closer to the original, before they butched them by adding them to Tyranids.. god that was an awful move ¬_¬

that screamer killer looks.. weird with.. I'm guessing a modern load out? I still remember a game I played years ago with my Space Wolves vs Tyranids and we kinda had to contact GW cause it was a pain working out a Screamer killer vs a dreadnought I believe. I was playing against a much older guy (family friend) with 2Ed rules (which were current at the time) and it got a bit confusing trying to work out them two fighting.. Atleast I think it was a dreadnough.. though I don't have a dreadnought (at the time).. might have been using a proxy.. OR it was with that missile launcher.. ugh.. soo long ago..

That tyranid dreadnought (or Screamer Killer as ManicMan said) looks nuts! I love it! :) Lovely conversion work.

^Manic Man: Personally I always just thought of the thing as the tyranid dreadnought anyway. The stats were pretty similar to other dreads, at least in late 1st ed.

But anyway, looking forward to seeing what you do with that stuff. And hey, if you want to play some Rogue Traderishness with it . . .

I started playing 2nd edition 40k. It's still my favorite edition. Back then the Carnifex was the Tyranid equivalent of a space marine dreadnought. But, it was better! Instead of armor values he had toughness and wounds, with an armor save on 2d6 (like space marine terminators). That made him MUCH harder to kill.
@ManicMan, I remember a game I played against my friends space wolves. My Lictor stepped out of a woods in front of a squad of terminators (5 of them with assault cannons) to charge. I forgot they were on over watch. My Lictor immediately turned into a pink mist.

yeah, I'm more of a 4ED WFB, 2ED 40K guy (but then, I haven't been able to play in a long time sadly..

yeah, the Screamer kill was a equivalent to a dreadnought. but I do remember there was some problem due to values trying to work stuff out.. might not have been against a dreadnough but it was something... as it was probebly back around 1996, it's hard to remember ^_^;

True fact the 1.5ed Screamer Killer IS the Carnifex. They became different things at some point? Anyway, whatever you prefer to call this one, it is a most creative example.

don't know if they became difference things but I know the renamed them at some point. screamer killer is a much better name s most tyranids don't appear to really speak, so the imperium or who-ever would have there own names for them. (also relates to why Genestealers and tyranids are NOT related ^_^)

I've got an original Zoat / Tyranid army that I'll post at some point, I did prefer that early version with the Genestealer army cross over inc hybrids creating a very different set of tactics.
Anyway, nice work @Borgador ! Look forward to seeing the paintjob coming together.

^Okay, I have some zoats. But not enough. And I have one tiny little lonely pink tyranid painted. So what I have is more of a Genestealer Cult with some reinforcements. Assuming you can put zoats in one. But I've got 'em so I'm gonna. ;)

You definitely can. You can even put renegade Zoats into a pirate army as per the Astronomicon.

I regret selling my one Zoat I had.
There's a few companies that make nice proxies. Knightmare Miniatures has a good one. Krakon Games also has a nice one, and they've got some good giant walking bugs too, that look very compatible with 1.5th to 2nd edition Tyranids. Diego, of Knightmare, used to kick around here and folks here encuoraged him to launch his company. I suspect Paul of Krakon did too, though I'm no longer certain of that. (I'd desperately love to get Ramshackle Curtis back on here too, but . . . well . . . there's always next year.)

I'll have to check them out.

I got an AWESOME deal on eBay! I bought a lot that said it was an old ravenor and a biovore. It just showed up today. Turns out it's actually 2 of the Tyranid special characters The Red Terror (special Ravenor) that's missing his tail spike, and Old One Eye (special character Carnifex) not a biovore. I paid $30 + shipping.
Amazing find!!! So glad I bought the lot!
Anyone have a red terror tail claw in their bits box?

Old one eye is assembled and mounted on his new scenic base, and ready for some primer! I kit bashed the base in 3d builder and printed it in resin.

And the Red Terror is ready for primer too. Couldn't find any sources for his missing tail claw/spike. So I 3d printed a proxy that I kit bashed together. Heresy, I know. But easily swapped out should a real one come my way.
