Boy, kids today are soo stupid... When I was young, we had this:


Today, we need to call it a 'STEM' toy, reduce the skill in both playing and creating, cut off the kids legs and release it in a bright box:


and they claim Kids are getting smarter (and yes, I was playing SC at 6 so don't use that excuse!

This is so true. I made sure to "educate" my kids with the original cartoons G.I Joes, He-Man, Transformers, Scooby-Doo, Loony Tunes and the earlier Ninja Turtles shows, and the classic Star Wars trilogy. And they get the toys from those shows...vintage stuff. Toy Guns...check, Flying Fighters, check! Foam Swords... And now they transition to classic games workshop seamlessly. Needless to say, it raises eyebrows at school: kids that play outside, walk miles without complaining, don't even have a computer or phone? We trade some safety and tech for smiles around the table at dinner, and awesome stories/memories to tell later on.

We're the town weirdos by the school standards, but strangely enough, some older parents and all grand-parents approve and ask if their kids can play with ours, as they are most autonomous by far of the flock. I stand by the fact that we were raised properly back then and at one point, too much "safe environment" isolate our kids from the world. There is a need for balance.
