OK, something weird is going on! I spent much of last night reading about Warhammer naval games and coming up with ideas of my own. I thought that I would make some and be really clever and post them here, and now this thread...
Great work both treps and Padre, lots of inspiration! Those wood chip rock cliffs look lovely, treps. The pirate orcs owned by both of you look good. I've avoided buying any pirates (outside of 40k) for too long.
During 6th edition when the ever useful General's Compendium came out, I was inspired enough to make some ships. Sadly, I never got past a simple rowed "goodie/Empire" boat and a simple "baddie/Orc" raft. There were some great ideas in that book to work with, so I'd love to do more.
Reading through lots of ship rules last night, I noticed that there isn't any reference to boarding at all in that article! No wonder it's only one and a half pages! I don't mind, if they saved space for the lovely photo
For anyone who's interested, I plan on using the Gary Chalk "All the nice Dwarves luv a Sailor" rules bulked out with the drifting and wind rules from the General's Compendium and use the 8th edition building assault rules for boarding. The whole 8th "choose a team up to ten men or three ogre sized" to charge into a building feels enough like a boarding party to me! The plan is to have models stay on whatever ship they moved over to, rather than falling back at all. That way, larger parties get split up, whereas smaller ones have make the decision to either abandon a ship, or commit fewer troops. Sorry if I'm hijacking, I promise I'll start my own once I've painted some of my own!
There are of course some good rules in the General's Compendium as it is, but it's all a bit much. For an occasional pick up game, I like to keep expansion/extra rules as simple as possible. I have enough trouble remembering the main rules as it is
I must admit that I haven't read enough of "Warhammer Ahoy" to know what it's like. Does anyone know how complex it is?
