Phreedh's Heroquest

Baron
I'm painting a set of Heroquest models for my son who is currently 3 years old. Initially I'm going for the core set and the two expansions that were released in Swedish.

The models are re-based on round washers to match all my other 28mm minis. That's the reasons why they're on grassed bases too. My aproach to painting these is "quick and dirty", so no replication of the Mike McVey paintjobs from White Dwarf. =) Base coat, wash and highlight with basecoat + lighter shade of base coat.

I'll keep the to-do list updated here in this initial post. Black means I have it, but unpainted. Green means I have painted the model. Red means I still need to find the model.
Base Game
1 Barbarian
1 Dwarf
1 Elf
1 Wizard
8 Orcs
6 Goblins
3 Fimir
4 Skeletons
2 Zombies
2 Mummies
4 Chaos Warriors (proxies painted, originals unpainted)
1 Chaos Warlock
1 Gargoyle

Kellar's Keep
8 Orcs
6 Goblins
3 Fimir

Return of the Witchlord
8 Skeletons
4 Mummies
4 Zombies

So, on with the painting and posting then.

Chaos warriors

First up, four chaos warriors. The models are not the ones included with Heroquest originally, but the 90s single pose regiment ones. Had to do them real quick like for a game, so opted to use these instead. I'll replace them as the final four of the base set.

Mummies

Next, I did two mummies. These were done really fast. Primed white, base coated in Bleached Bone, drubrushed with Skull White and then just washed with Devlan Mud. Four more to do once they're out of the stripping jar.

Next up, zombies - once I take a photo of them.

They all look fantastic, quick job or not!

Heroquest started it all off for me, Im sure your son will fall in love with it too-especially with painted miniatures :o

Are those bases 25mm? Do they fit the board squares alright? I'm planing on embarking on a similar project and I think round based look better but I want to make sure they're game useable.

Cheers Bruno! HQ was an early one for me, but what did me in was Blood Bowl 2nd edition, and prior to that lead minis for D&D games.

Indeed they are. Regarding fitting on the board, I'm not too sure. The original "rectangles" fit worse though. I haven't been too fuzzed as I, in long term, plan on doing my own board which would have properly sized squares.

Nice work phreed!
I especially like the metallics on the chaos warriors!
Thanks aggro! The method I've been using the last few years worked reasonably well on these guys too. Black base coat, drubrushes of boltgun metal, tin bitz and mithril silver with a wash of black inbetween and then topping it with some devlan mud.

Zombies

Inbetween pumpkin carving and painting orcs I managed to take this photo of the two zombies I had previously painted.

So, that's it for now. More plastic to follow next month - Goblinovember, you know! =)

This is the thread that broke the camel's back...I now have the 4 heroquest characters, a non citadel female barbarian and a metal bloodthirster on the way :ugeek:

Pretty freaking sweet for "quick and dirty" painting.
I'm still not a fan of these figures, but when painted this well I can admit there are a lot worse sculpts in the world. ;)

 haha, no more Monopose Monstrosities non-sense now ! there are no ugly models in this world (apart from that late 90's square eldar titan I'd like to forget...)

Very good work Phreedh ! Now go get some heroes to throw at them !

I blame the peer pressure. ;)
