"Painting" shield faces.

Thought you guys might find this little cheaty technique helpful,

I can't paint faces -or any detailed image for that matter- freehand, so while flicking through my old trusty tome StD the untapped potential of a series of innocuous illustrations dawned on me. In the corner of almost every page is a round (almost shield like) illustration of a gruesome visage. A bit of a light bulb moment occurred, why not use those awesome images to adorn my shields? So I photographed the image's, resized them to fit my shields, printed them off & stuck them on.

So here's some pics of the process, more waffle over on my blog if you interested.

Well, there's no paint yet, but you can see where it's headed

Cheers.

I really think the fact it's paper can help you achieve some muted down tones with diluted inks and washes.Maybe printing the sheet on a decal pape rcould have been a solution too.
Anyway this is a wonderful solution so all my thumbs up for you !

Thanks JB,

I agree with your opinion about the paper, the colour should bleed out in interesting ways.

I think the issue with decal paper is that it will be quite difficult (for me at least) to paint, as it has a gloss finish.

The beauty of the paper method is that i can print out as many as i want to & experiment to my hearts content.....it's cheap as chips. Should be able to come up with a pleasing finish eventually ;)

Bye bye

Your most welcome Mr Rab,

It would really put a smile on my dial to see these shield face designs popping up on peoples project's.

Cheers

Ah, um

No progress at the moment on the shields, as I'm trying to finish off my Orctober entry

Quite a poor effort huh.

I'll be sure to post up how they turn out as soon as their done though.

Cheers Blue.

And, steel away steders, interested to see how yours turn out.

Let me try & dig them out of my laptop and I'll send them off to you.

Unfortunately you can't PM attachments on this forum, so if you want a copy I'll need your email address.
