Paint Stripping

Name maybe is a homage, but he doesn’t have Quentin’s signature hat! 😅
The model is going to be the slightly outrageous but heroic captain to a new Gyrocopter I have picked up. 😉
I have descent squadron of them now (the RPE dragon planes next!) and envisioned Quintin as the captain bravely commanding the group (as if they can hear him… 😉).

Dettol all the way - if it's good enough for Rick Priestley, it's good enough for me (if anyone was at the last Warlord open day and in his seminar that will make more sense).

The one thing I do find with Dettol that isn't always mentioned is that if you get water on the post-Dettoled paint it can turn any remaining paint into a gloopy mess that will smear over the mini and be an absolute nightmare to get off, so after I pull the mini out of the Dettol bath, firstly lift off what you can with a toothpick - old citadel paints in particular like to lift off in sheets. Only once I've done that do I scrub with a toothbrush (still just in Dettol). Once that is done I cover the mini and brush in a good dollop of washing up liquid and scrub again, which lifts the remaining paint off the mini, and only then do I let water touch it - just stick the mini under a full blast tap to blow all the washing up liquid foam / paint off of it. It's a bit laborious, but letting water touch the paint too early has caused me headaches in the past, and an extra couple of mins to get the best from a classic mini feels like a reasonable sacrifice..

Absolutely. I go so far as to have a seperate jar of warm, soapy water that all dettoled miniatures get dropped in and swilled around in for a few minutes. That removes most of the paint without turning it into smeary gloop.

I've used Simple Green a lot. Never heard of LA's Totally Awesome. May need to see if I can find some and try it out, as I'm on Knight Girl's side of the pond. May need to try the freezer trick, too!

Thanks for the tips!
