Orctober 2023 - Fantasy Force

Very creative way of basing I'm terrible for getting basing materials on my painted mini's. Perhaps I should base first and paint second?

That is my usual approach.

[1] glue sand on base
[2] prime mini including base
[3] paint base, with all the dybrushing
[4] paint mini

In this project, this wasn't an option for me because of the quick shade, which I didn't want to alter my base colour.

Similar approach, but being a bit of a cheat I just buy Dark Earth from Vallejo which is essentially a coloured texture paint. That and Russian Mud are the two colours I tend to use. With the Dark Earth I then add a black wash and then a bit of a dry bush in a lighter colour. I vaguely try to have a consistent style with each faction.

I generally do try to do bases (or as much of the base as I can) before fixing the model down. Mostly because I prefer to paint the models off their bases so I can more easily get the brush into some of the overhangs on models.

Orctober is drawing to a close. I still have two days, but I won't get done much in those.

The (quite ambitious) plan was to finish 250 Orcs. So what did I really achieve?

I built and painted

  • 20 Orc Swords
  • 20 Orc Spears
  • 2 * 10 Orc Arrerz
  • 9 Goblin fanatics

I built and have ready for painting

  • 10 Orc Arrerz
  • 2 * 10 Orc Arrer Crossbows
  • 20 Orcs with 2 hand weapons

I built and painted over 10 years ago and now quick shaded and based:

  • 2 * 20 Goblins
  • 20 Goblin archers
  • 10 Goblin Spider Riders (and invented 3e rules for them)
  • Goblin Boss
  • Goblin Shaman

So all in all not too shabby, I guess.

Here some more detailed shots:

I will try to finish what I started on in November, the rest will probably be my =Orctober 2023= project.

Oh, and earlier today:

My orcs are a constant work in progress so I don't feel too bad about showing my new additions to existing units and a brand new unit of archers which I've finally got to a point where I'm happy to call them my own.
