Oldschool 80s Champions of Chaos on sale from GW

You all probably knew this any way, but I just spotted these classic Jes Goodwin Chaos Warriors (including the infamous Slambo) are on sale from GW:

£3.75 each, not bad at all.

Not especially interested in Chaos, but some of the stuff in that collectors range is quite interesting. And looks as though it's going to be expanded...

I believe the extra/blank entries are more likely to be minis they have stopped selling, rather than place holders for future releases.

Yeah, just a little while ago (a year?) there used to be a few classic chaos sorcerers as well as a few of those odd dwarves, such as the pith helm chap.

Yeah. They seem to have dropped a lot of the dragons they used to have from the site too (although the old Dragon Masters / Elric dragon is still p).

What is odd is that some items in my wishlist still link to the product, but you can't navigate there from the main site - although they turn up if you search for them, like the Dwarf Adventurers:

Ah well, that's a shame. Haven't looked at the GW site for so long I don't know what's what!

He went quickly here in the USA. Wish I had picked one up before he got gone :(

Nice to see they are giving the recasters some competition.

I would love to know just what moulds GW has left from the '80s & what they would be willing to cast up. They really couldn't go wrong reproducing some of the older scenario/boxed sets, but I'm sure anything competing with an existing plastic line wouldn't see daylight.

I bought my brother the Dragonmaster Dragon a while back, $50 Aussie which is pretty cheap/good value for us really...considering it's a nice chunk of metal.

I got this set of 4 about a month or so ago then they vanished from the website. I guess they're back again so they must be popular enough to do another casting run.

Cheers

I know these are metal, but I wonder if GW would be game to broaden the old-skool range if they used a material they find more agreeable, like Finecast?
There are many Golden Age minis from the '80s that would likely do better than the current WFB 4th/5th+ assortment they still keep stocked. Providing a resin resurrection to some of the old scenario sets like TotL or McDeath would be interesting as well, although I'm sure there would be plenty of squealing from "serious" collectors. HERESY!

Finecast resurection of McDeath and TOtL, if that is not mixed feelibngs, I don't know what is !
I don't see that coming at all. (but would like to be proven wrong though)

The whole Jes G. chaos champions set could benefit from a resin resurection since since the original models are fine enough to be worth it and these will still sell, apart from them, I don't see what kind of models would be worth resurecting from their point of view since the design has changed a lot for most armies (only skaven, eldars or chaos, well everything sculptd by JG would do imho and some Perry's classics too).
I think there's not enough worth resurecting from their point of view, plus resurrecting old references can drive some people from new releases and that's not what they'd want when they have a whole studio to pay and make cost-effective.

I can't see McD seeing a comeback (too much daft humour), but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they put out an updated TotL scenario at some point, with all new figures, though.

They really don't have much of an appreciation of their own history in general, with the exception of Forge World, who are doing a really nice job with the HH stuff.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Other than a few odds and sods that turn up in the Collectors, the 25th Warhammer included 1e Reprint, re-release Space-Hulk, licensing of Talisman and WFRP to FFG, and the recent Chainsaw Warrior iThingy game, there's the fact that they've done nothing* new for the last 30ish years. Same game engine, same factions, same base figure concepts. If anything GW are too bound up by their own history and are afraid to do anything new. Gosh even the art dept contains many of the same people, and that logo? Get out of the 80s bro'! lol!

I don't expect re-releasing old stuff to become mainstream for GWs product-line, but it's because the scalability and profit margins required for running a global miniatures business are better on multipart plastic kits, something they've known since the Skeleton Horde (2nd Edition).

*well, nothing except those Manga robots, Terminator robots and Iron Maiden Powerslave tribute armies, and their manufacturing processes.

Just showing off really but worth pointing out this was even cheaper that the GW collectors version off ebay. Worth looking now and then.

I must be searching poorly then, because everyone I see goes for much more than the collectors version.

All good things come to those who wait and check regularly. I have two and neither broke the bank.
