Like Zhu I managed to be banned from both Facebook groups for asking questions regarding some new rules on the trading group...

What a nice community it is...

What rules?

Mainly the one forbidding you to resell on ebay any miniature you may buy on the group. They put a rule saying that if anybody sees one of the miniatures he sold on the group he just had to complain and the reseller would be banned for being a reseller.

I argued that we were all potential resellers (like anybody involved in any collector market) and it seems that I don't have the right to say so as it may hurt people...

I find it a bit on the extreme side of things (the rules and the ban)...

But that's nothing if you take into account that I was proposed to be able to rejoin the non trading group only if I deleted my message here because telling that I had been banned was giving a negative image of the group... I thought for a time that we were all adults but it looks like some of us are still kids acting as such like they probably did in they playground at school...

I can understand my ban from the trading group as I was arguing against the rules (even if I really find them a bit extreme an ridiculous) but I still don't understand why I have been banned from the regular group.

I liked the regular group because there were sometimes interventions from old GW people (Rick Priestley for example), what I think is the worst is to see people conficasting the Oldhammer term for their own use with their own rules and accepting no discussion regarding them but having the nerve to call this a community...

Yuck. Silly rule anyway. Personally I'd never buy a model just to sell again. However, who's to say if someone didn't buy a load of models with good intentions and then lost their job/divorce/car died and needed the money?

Slim chance I know, but I hate mindless banning, no questions asked, like that.

To be fair, that's not really the rule. Yes, it's probably open to interpretation, but it's basically 'Dont be a cock about it.'

- Got something in a bulk trade you don't really want: Fine. That's not being a cock.

- Got an abandoned project you decide to sell on: Fine. That's not being a cock, either.

- Buy up everything that's cheap and put it on eBay at AlexTwattaway BIN Prices: Now *that's* being a cock.

Well that all sounds a bit a silly.
I am pretty sure you won't get banned for asking questions here.
I firmly believe that it is the community that makes Oldhammer and not the other way around.
"People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think ...."
This place has evolved into a wonderful community without mods being meddlesome.

Now stop using the word "cock"before I ban you.

If I want to call people a male chicken I will, thank you.

I would have thought trying to impose 'rules' on Oldhammer types was a little like herding cats...
Some already tried here before, without any luck I would say ;) (oh by pure coincidence those are the same ones that are trying on the Facebook groups right now...)

For the sake of completeness: Yes we have introduced a new set of strict rules on the Fb trading page (not the community page) but this was at the urging of a core group of our oldest members who were becoming very annoyed at the way money and 'worth' was becoming a major focus for trades instead of helping each other out. The new rules have put the focus very much back on honest dealings and a have already helped to foster a more friendly atmosphere. There is no dispute that such measures are not necessary here but Fb as a platform is a very different beast to a forum (as has been pointed out). I hope that I remain friends with Bruno despite his ongoing situation and I hope to see his return soon. I continue to hope that this particular thread steers clear of taking an us and them approach as that would be very sad.

That's just... hilarious.

Oh well Treps, perhaps we should set up a publicly accessible platform for the discussion of Oldhammer and trading stuff, have a bare minimum of rules and make sure everyone is free to voice whatever opinions they like.

...looks around...

:)

Make sure everyone agrees on a name before you launch it...otherwise there might be no end of confusion... ;)

Gave that Oldhammer Facebook group a fair try, but it's a bumout so i've sacked it off. Everyone on the trading page I dealt with was sound though.
Would certainly welcome a Facebook group that was more open to discussion of related subjects, kind of how Zhu's blog touches on loads of different themes that are all subtly connected without it being a GW gangbang. Passes the day when you've a quiet minute at work
