Oldbowl Dark Elves

I've been steadily plugging away at a Dark Elf team for the NAF Tournament in May next year, and have now reached a paint where all the models have been converted and are just awaiting paint. Here's the team to date:

Blitzers

All 4 models started out as Tuern Redvenom. One is unaltered (because I like the model so much), and the others have had greater or lesser degrees of adaptation. I know many people like their Blitzers in action poses, but I really like the arrogant look on these guys.

Linemen

The sculpting on these guys isn't as crisp as I wanted - the configuration of shoulder pads made it a little bit difficult, but overall I'm happy with the adaptation from Elf to Dark Elf.

Witch Elves / Runner

The Witch Elf on the right was a late addition to the squad (as a result of more gold to play with at NAF 2014). I don't really like using plastic, but for lack of suitable alternatives, I ended up using the Dark Elf Sorceress as a parts donor. The Runner looks a little understated now, but I think he'll paint up really nicely. He was probably the simplest conversion of the lot, although removing the Blitzer's tabard was a bit of a pain.

Hopefully I should have another couple of figures finished this week :)

More detail on how the team has been assembled on my blog:

no idea who painted them tbh, found at the bottom of a box of old minis a friend gave me, I don't even remember any of us ever even playing BB.

That's looking really good.

I love what you've done with the High Elf cheerleader conversion, an inspired idea.

Cheers

So what's a week between friends eh? I finally got round to putting some paint to lead the last couple of nights, and this is the result, my first painted Witch Elf and Lineman.

The lineman seems to be pretty solid & I'm really pleased with the Witch Elf (the model was quite difficult to envisage unpainted).

More progress on these guys in 2014 - have a good Christmas/New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas mate !

The witch elf surely looks different with some paint on. Sinc eth ered and green seem to be complementary colours I suspect you 've once more used the colour wheel to get the right colour scheme...
It is very good and it enhenaces he very vivid skin tone you've chosen which woudl have felt too cold otherwise.
Try to stay away from gravy and pudding to keep enough force to finish them soon !

Yep - it's a tetrad colour scheme (more or less) - red/green plus tan (boots)...the fourth colour should technically be more blue than grey/purple (flesh), but the blues came out too strongly and I wanted something more subtle :)

I'll do my best ;)

Looking very good so far! Blue(ish) skin color for elves is a winner.
And, as always, splendid conversion jobs.

I have to say - not a fan of the big plastic hair on the bitch elf, but... still a very good pose.

Awesome! Dark Elves were my first Blood Bowl team back in the days. I plan to collect and paint more Blood Bowl models in 2014 too :)

Thanks guys!

I'm hoping the plastic hair will look significantly better when painted. At the moment it really sticks out. :)

Last night I finished my first painted model of 2014 - the Runner for this Dark Elf team.

Here he is:

And the obligatory group shot to date:

Nearly halfway to a full team ;)

More commentary on the blog.

Nice job! How do you find them to paint? I haven't painted any 2nd edition dark elves since I painted a delf lineman for the TBB legacy team in... 2006 or so. I didn't enjoy that one. Love the work you've done on the Redvenoms, and the witch elf is pure awesome. I need to find myself something conversion-light to use with my own Storm Bolts (orc, skaven and dark elf mixed team from the old Dungeon Bowl box). Any ideas?

Nice painting here.
The color scheme is very unusual for DE, but I really love the skin tone.

Cheers! I was aiming for something still sinister and subdued, but not another black or purple set of Dark Elves! I did briefly toy with a variation on the Darkside Cowboys (yellow and blue), but went for something of my own invention in the end!

Painting is much slower than for my skaven team - mainly because the skaven were quite textural with the fur and lumpy skin, so I was able to use some faster techniques. There is a lot of detail on the Elves too - studs, little plates or whatever, and I've been struggling to work out which to paint different colours! As for suggestions on Dark Elves, the easy conversion route would be to pick some existing Blood Bowl elves and stick some helmets on from the new plastic kit. I've seen plenty of people using weapon-clipped Dark Eldar too.

Oh, I'm all set with 2nd edition Dark Elves... apart from the new-fangled positionals. Runner is a no-brainer (kicker) but I'm struggling with the witch elf I need. I would prefer to use weapon clipped 3rd edition whfb witch elves, but haven't seen anything fitting. I assumed you had a few alternatives to the path you took and I'm curious to hear what they were (if any).

Ah - sorry, I misunderstood. Witch Elves were my stumbling block too. I simply couldn't find suitable models that fit design or scale wise, which is why I've ended up with the Harlequin conversion, and a second converted from an Elf Cheerleader. I don't really have an easy answer I'm afraid :(
