Not moaning at any one from the time But: Citadel Journal archiving Service

ManicMan

Lord
Okay.. able to look through some of the second volume of the Citadel Journal and around issue 13 I noticed something really weird. With this issue, Paul Sawyer took over from Gavin Tyler if I got it right (and the other members of staff basically went at the same time).

But the there was a new feature.. the Citadel Journal Archiving Service. Now, I'm FAR from against anytime they want to issue back-issue services but this one has kinda confused the hell out of me. Now.. at this time, the Journal had a cover price of £4 for about 56 pages. That is important.

People were asking about getting back issues for some articles and features, mostly new rules. So they now offered that service. In a way. They listed some articles from earlier issues of the journal (in fact, every issue before the current). Instead of printing up new copies of the pages or sending leftover stock.. they would sent you a photocopy in a 'dust-proof plastic wallet' (a standard polly pocket or did they use them plastic folders but with GW logo?). They claim it's first class post so maybe postage is included but... well.. lets have a look at the price list.

Most of them are the same amount. I'll take the Warhammer Helblaster Wagon from journal 1 as an example. It's £2.50. Depending if they want to count the 2 pages which are rules for the hellblaster and other wagons.. that's 6 pages. The Journal was mostly just black and white anyway but.. does that price sound... a bit insane to anyone? At this time, the journal had been going for 1 year approx., and it was 1996. If you go in line with inflation only, that's just over £5.

so.. that's for 6 pages of black and white photocopy (maybe double sided), in a plastic wallet of unknown type and most likely the first class postage... I know you need to factor the couple of minutes for someone to go to the photocopier with a copy of the issue (or pages from a binder) and I know am from a part of the county which is kinda known as a pretty poor area but.. Am I the only person that thinks the price is a bit high? The Nurgle Palanquin or 40K from the issue before (which was priced £3.99( is also £2.50.. but this is 4 page (unless they included the inside cover colour page copied in B/W.

yeah.. sorry, but am I the only one that thinks it's pretty damn high? you could have brought issue 12 the month before for £3.99, or now the next month, or you could buy just the rules articles for £17.50 now...

Anyone use this service.. have there own thoughts on value for money?
