New Fimir miniatures by me :)

Dude, this fimir is looking überawesome! The ornate belly plate is very elegant and the piece on the forearm is absolutely gorgeous too. The face you've given him is the best from many ranges with just the right amount of evil intention and alien look. The long limbs with fat belly are really good because you didn't fall in the "overmuscled" trap. You really managed a great synthesis so far. Great work.

Very nice. Reminds me a little of the Sea People.

Are you mixing something in with the GS for working on the details?

Well , there's no GS here at all! I hate GS , I use mostly Super Sculpey and FIMO, all those details must be impossible for me on GS medium

No GS, intriguing. I haven't tried to use Super Sculpey or FIMO so I have no experience with them. It took me a while to figure out how to get the GS to cooperate. I would be very interested to hear exactly what the advantages and disadvantages of the different mediums are from your perspective. Also what tools are you using primarily? I tend to use size 0 clay shapers with wax carving tools to work the green stuff - lubricating with my saliva like a hound  .

Cool, just bought some sculpey to try out, never figures it would work on something so small. Fimo I used as a kid but find it impossible to work in small scale. Any idea if you can mix GS and sculpey? (Not together, just using both on the same figure I mean!)

Sure you can mix , in fact I use the GS to stick on the wire , because super sculpey don't do , then I apply the sculpey over the fresh GS.

Advantages of supersculpey? All for me , well almost , super sculpey is fragile once baked , many small piezes odr details may broke if not handled with care , but after that , you can sculpt a bit today , rest , back 5 days later and still fresh and soft.
Also is waaay more elastic and twistable , it let you go really deep on detail and ultra smooth surfaces.
....yes ....I use my saliva too.... :|

Very interesting. How will it do with the casting process of making a master model for the master mould I wonder?

Yes , resin or metal master , and "commercial" casts from there.

BTW , what do you preffer guys? Metal or resin? I say resin , it have a lot of advantages....but is up to you in the end..

Well obviously my desire would be metal... I much prefer the feel of painting and gaming with metal minis. That said, my fimir army includes plastic, resin, and metal already, so I can't say I'd shed too many tears if you decided on something else!

For metal there are 2 issues .
1) The molds are made for more than 1 model , exactly 10 so it can be a problem to find someone who can do it in time.
2) Some of the small details can be lost , while resin will show EVERY little thing.

I really lean to resin.

Regarding 2, I always thought that was the case, certainly it's what White Dwarf had always told me. When I went to see the foundry which now handles my minis they showed me some of their castings and the detail was incredible, easily a match to any resin-cast figure. It's down to the skll of the mouldmaker and the ratio of lead/tin in the metal apparently.

The main issue for metal is that metal costs are constantly increasing whereas resin costs remain pretty much constant. For me the satisfaction of the weight of the figure outweighs the problems of metal. I agree the muli-figure thing is problematic, but then you just have to sculpt more figures! ;) (Then production runs cost more in material terms etc etc etc. It's a hard balance and I certainly haven't got it right yet!)

Piece after piece it only gets better. I notice the left arm seems a bit lon but as said before I think it looks good and helps to show tis is an alien creature, part demon and all...
If the zoats are half as good as the fimirs and minotaur, I believe I'll have a VERY cool looking eldritch raiders force  8-)
