Need help with identification

First of all, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place.
If not, I'm sorry.


I've recently rediscovered my large lot of miniatures I put together back in the 1990s, spanning several games and universes. Most of it is metal Citadel/Games Workshop miniatures, some painted, some unassembled or unpainted. I'd like to get some help identifying the pieces and getting a sense of their current market value (secondhand, collector interest, rare or out-of-production "OOP" pieces).


Contents of the lot:


Warhammer Fantasy Battle
  • Undead army (Undead / Vampire Counts), with the first Nagash and Arkhan the black
  • Chaos army, Khorn allegiance with the first Bloodthirster
  • Chaos Dwarfs

Warhammer 40,000
  • mostly Xéno

Necromunda

  • I don't remember anymore

Demonworld

  • I don't remember anymore

I haven't unpacked everything from my boxes yet, but the main things are here

Overall condition: [painted / unpainted / mixed, good condition or worn, original bases or not, boxes/blisters kept or not]


Happy to provide more photos by category (front/back, bases, close-ups of faces/weapons) if that helps. What I'm mainly after:


  1. Identification of the oldest or rarest pieces
  2. A rough value range for the whole lot, and individually for anything that stands out

As Brother Meredith says we're not really geared up for doing all the hard work of picking through massive group shots and trying to piece together sets. I get it, no one likes to sell something like Nagash for a fiver only to find out you could have exchanged him for a house or something ;)

You'll get the most for everything probably by selling the pieces yourself on a platform such as ebay and you can use the advanced search features to get an idea of what things might actually sell for. I'd not just go off "buy it now" listings, they are often optimistic, but if you are in no hurry you can always list things for higher amounts and just wait for some fool and their money to come wandering by! In fact Nagash is probably a good example. If I look at the current auctions I'd assume he's worth well over £100 - yah!. However looking at sold pricesand I see it's realistically something like £30-70. As ever it's only what someone is willing to pay at any particular time, I'd not mind having another go at painting Nagash, I could get my old one off my brother (I forget if I actually finished painting it) or pick up one, but for me he's maybe worth £20 because it's a "nice to have", but someone collecting an Undead army and just missing him might well cough up £70 because that's all they need to finish up the army. So pricing is in such flux it can be hard to say something is worth X.

If you want to sell the whole lot to someone several people have mentioned https://thedemonslair.org/ in the past here, I've not personally used them so can't vouch for them. Then there are the large sellers on ebay like the Troll Trader who will often buy collections. Obviously these people need to make a profit, so don't expect such good prices. However you could shift things quicker if you are after that.

I'd personally spend a little time going through stuff and see if you can marry up pieces of the various large creatures and so forth, complete they will be worth more. You've got some nice models in there that will sell well and you've already identified the broad types - your Chaos Dwarfs for instance are the earlier Citadel ones before they acquired their excessive love of milliners. Things like the Chaos Dwarf Whirlwind war machine can often sell for a fair amount. I see you've got some Skaven in there (the ratmen) and a Kegox the dragon which is probably worth a reasonable amount if complete. There are plenty of catalogues online such as those at http://www.solegends.com/ or http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/ in which you'll be able to find a lot of things or at least enough to mostly figure it out. Things like the Necromunda for instance - you've got the box a quick google or two will get your an idea of what models you have and you should be able to match up styles where things are separated. Then as mentioned check out some sold prices and you'll have an idea.

By all means if there is the odd model you're having trouble with do post, folk here like a challenge and mulling over things, but I suspect most people will just raise an eyebrow at a large dump of photos with a generic ID request, you might have to be a little more targeted if you want people to work for free :)

That all said I stick by my note on the other thread - sort it and paint it and play with it! Obviously it might not be your thing anymore, but if you used to enjoy painting it can be very therapeutic to get back into again even if you are unlikely to game with the models. In many ways it's so much easier to get good results these days, long gone are the sets of four or five small photographs where you're trying to wonder how you go from 4 to 5 where "magic" appeared to happen, YouTube is awash with tutorials on a million different styles and watching things done makes quite a difference. Then there is now a huge range of good quality paints available and large ranges of paints designed for quick painting. So why not see if you've still got that modelling itch!

I just find it odd to sign up to a forum that is clearly populated by fans enjoying discussing their hobby and your first post is a photo dump of a box of models that you are looking to sell off and expecting an evaluation? 🤔

A quick search will find you a mass of Facebook groups who will help identify & price up your collection.
 
I thought it was succinct, and everything you wrote is very true. The forum focus is on enjoying old lead rather than valuing it. Although I don't think anyone here has a problem people asking for a bit of advice on sales, just make it a bit less of a huge table full of mixed up models all in one go!
