My kingdom for a horse!

I'm kind of leaning that way myself as at least we have WPs models to help us feel sure that they scale properly. I see myself ordering a mess of these too!

I have to say that I've been a hard core proponent of the FR horses , I've got over 100 knighted mounted on them but the photo of the GB ones has me considering some just for varieties sake.

I can certainly understand your desire for diversity in the ranks. My only concern would be the scale issue...I'll have to dig around to see if I can find a comparison shot with the two styles represented. Gripping Beast is clear in calling their figures 25mm....so that worries me.

For what it's worth the gripping beast figures are very much 28mm in size and scale well with most of the other 'bigger' ranges. never touched a front rank horse so can't compare on that count but I have a painted gripping beast knight somewhere (from my wedding of all things); if I can find it I'll take some comparison shots with some old citadel.

Great thread by the way and lovely photos. My own brets are labouring with the same 'which knights on what horses dilemma?' I'm using the old citadel feudal knights (and therefore also the newer foundry re-releases) converted with their foot knights to add some variety. But They are on the small side with the rest if the army and I'm unconvinced to be honest.

thanks for the input Mostyn...I've never worked the GB figures at all so some first hand knowledge is good.

maybe I'll order 10 of each!

Barry,

Did you ever order any of the FR horses? I'm still pondering this issue and trying to decide which way to go.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I've got 32 front rank horses that I'm slowly altering (the saddle fronts and backs need removing for citadel riders to fit). They are pretty well sized for both the larger and smaller knights. I'll post some pictures over the weekend.

Have the miniatures turned up yet - are you now the proud owner of a swivel gun yet?

Great! I look forward to seeing how they work out for you. I'm trying to decide if I should order direct or from their us distributor.

No figures yet...but soon I'm sure.

As promised, here are some of my Bretonnians on the front rank horses.

The larger multi-part knights that I'm going to use as my Chevaliers d'honneur go well on the fully cloth barded horses. Although the horses are the same size as the other ones, the cloth barding bulks them out nicely. I have 32 horses in total, 10 Chevaliers d'honneur, 10 Noblesse d'epee, 6 Chevaliers de notre dame de bataille and 6 Chasseures de la mort with crossbows.

Here are a few to show the smooth fitting (once the saddle has been butchered!)

Once my last few figures arrive on my doorstep, the grand army of Bretonnia will be complete and I will post some pictures of it fully assembled (partially painted) in the showcase area!

...another cool thing about these horses is the weight - i have them all in 1 kr multicase and its way heavier then my kr multicase that houses nearly 200 of my infantry!

Excellent! Thanks for posting those...I think they look quite good. And I will probably move forward with ordering some in the near future. I'm tempted to get a few of the gripping beast nags as well...I would love to see a comparison pics before I do but I can't seem to find one anywhere.

Thanks for the pics!

Cheers,

well...I cracked and ordered 20 of the Front Rank horses from the mother ship...Your pic convinced me. Despite the excellent examples of the Gripping Beast horses shown at the beginning of this thread I just find them odd looking on their webstore and didn't want to take the risk of hating them when they arrived. I may attempt to mix some in in the future...but 20 horses will keep me bust for a long time already.

That said I have been working on the group of 10 5th edition knights that I started more than a year ago...so maybe they will be ready to try the new horses once they land on my door step.

Cheers,

Blue
