Michaels 25mm WFB Stuff...

I do love your little roadside shrines. They remind me of shrines in East Asia. Mind you, a lot of those (maybe most?) are essentially the equivalent to roadside crosses here: generally a memorial to someone killed in traffic. You have a lot of wild, runaway carriages in Stirland? Dangerous speeding Clydesdales and Percherons? (Or maybe Griffins. If you have Trish Carden Griffins pulling the chariots I can see where that really might get out of hand.)

Thanks, they are for offerings to The Mother and The Father, and tend to be near fields and so on. Harvest and fertility type shrines.

looks great.

Thank you.

I decided to increase my Helblitzen from 15 to 25 models.
But with my own project rule of no duplicate figures and all the soldiers and villagers having to be oldhammer GW models, finding another 10 different old models was not especially easy or cheap.
Having said that I did manage to pick up 4 more for £10.00 which was a bargain.

After having a ponder and reflecting a bit, well, a lot, I decided a unit filler may be fun and cheaper.
Now, with the unit filler not being a soldier or a villager, it did not have to be an oldhammer model.

This is handy as I had a modern model pig lying around which I was going to use in Mordheim.

So.
I set about converting the pig into a unit filler, a War Hog.
I wanted to have something a bit daft and also something that sort of reflected my love of Hammer Horror films.

(I have the Karnsteins in my undead and also have a banner with Ingrid Pitt on it.)

I have been tempted to buy a goblin fanatic and lend it to my main WFB 3rd edition opponent for his Orcs as they are good for a laugh.

I actually gave him most of the models to encourage him to play 3rd and our forces are pretty much a direct match.
This made me think, the unit filler needs to make sense for my backwater village, but wouldn’t it be cool if it could also be an Empire equivalent of a goblin fanatic?

I doubt I will use any special rules for it, but modified goblin fanatic rules could work, as could using the Run Amok rules for chariots.

Anyway my War Hog:

Ingrid Pigg.

With a wooden halfling made of a barrel, some bits of wood and a pumpkin, tied to the saddle, Ingrid Pigg is let loose from the ranks to stampede and trample those foolish enough to get in her way.
On the odd occasion, Dieb the ‘halfling’ falls off which is handy as the barrel is actually full of highly flammable spirits and on the occasions when Dieb has come loose, the Ambrustschutzen have tried to ignite it with flaming quarrels, alas they never managed it.

One day maybe eh?

Just the rest of the Helblitzen to paint now, normal service has resumed.

I hope my joking didn't influence your decision and Ingrid Pigg finds her place, if not in your army, somewhere in Heiligsheld instead. Would be a shame not to use the mini. My personal opinion about unit fillers is that they can make units way more unique and interesting, if animal mascot is not the thing for your helblitzen maybe something else could work?

Ha ha. Nah not sure what it is but it does not feel right.
I have managed to find some billmen to fill the gaps. So back to what we know.

Should have known better to change from the formula.

Nothing wrong with that. Painting mojo comes and goes and sometimes it's good to take a break from one project to either paint something else, do some terrain building or just have a good old fashioned hiatus from the hobby in general.

Well that was quick, yesterday after deciding to go ahead and not use a unit filler, I ordered some Billmen from Wargames Foundry at 2pm.
They turned up at 11am this morning, that is an exceptionally fast delivery.

I am now cleaning and basing the new recruits.

I'm thinking Ingrid pig could be part of a village tradition/folk festival along the slightly dangerous lines, a bit like the Ottery St Mary tar barrels (or at least how they were 30 years ago when I went, not sure whether they're still the same). Something with a touch of danger for the young men to prove their manhood. Maybe grabbing a drink from the barrel or 'rescuing' the halfling maiden whilst Ingrid gets very physical expressing her displeasure at the tomfoolery?
It'd be a shame not to use her somehow.

I will almost certainly use her, I like the idea. Quite possibly your idea. The Festival of The Badger.
The meaning of the name lost to time...
