Michaels 25mm WFB Stuff...

Merry Christmas everyone, and if it is not so merry where you are, don't suffer in silence, reach out to someone.
^^this. Being a damn fine looking Pagan I'll be sat at home with the Rabbit drinking a ton of Hobgoblin ale and smoking myself into an early grave, so if anyone is having a bad time hit me up, I'll be online most of the day anyway so it won't be a problem.

Painted 2 models already this year, Zoinks!!

I was going to paint the Dwarf farm hand but upon closer inspection the model is not that suitable and also a bit of a crude sculpt so instead painted Johannes Wife and his Doggo.

HANSINE

No-one messes with a farmers wife, especially one with hands the size of hers!!

Now, the colours are not what I would have done ordinarily. A white apron and hood sprang to mind as the obvious choice, but I wanted her clothes to match that of Johannes, so that is what I ended up doing.
(Mostly, I meant to do grey tights but forgot...)

Whilst I search for a suitable Dwarf I will make the terrain section that joins the Farmhouse to the Barn.

Those are all really well done. The muted tones for downtrodden villagers are excellent and I can feel they are unhappy with their lot (as they should be!). And I wouldn't mess with the wife (does she have a name?) or the dog as both look pretty fearsome!

Thanks, I am minded to keep to muted colours but I worry I may get bored.. we will see.

yes the names are in BOLD UPPERCASE just above the respective images

The template is cut.

There is a part of me that wants to make a full on playable diorama, big foam boards, sculpted terrain but there is the issue of storage.
Then there is a part of me that wants to make mini set pieces, like the farm and its various buildings, the various structures could be on one larger board that is all nice and pretty, but that means those structures would be stuck to that board.
Now, I have no plans on ever using these buildings for anything other than what they have been made for, but if I do stick them down onto a single set piece that is that.

So, a template which allows the individual buildings to slide into place that will be textured and built up to join them.

It is not as pretty but it solves the problems, plus it means that other buildings can make use of the template.

Johannes Pertwee had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!
And on his farm he had, well nothing yet.

I have an idea for sheep, but what do you recommend for chickens, pigs, goats etc?
Looking ideally for oldhammer looking metal sculpts, not fancy digitally designed plastic stuff.
Also, nothing too realistic.

Some of the Wargames Foundry stuff is suitably ancient and on the small side with bits by the Perrys e.g. GPR004 Shepherd, sheepdog & sheep plus the pack animals. They also have GPR014 primitive pigs in their European Bronze Age range.

Other options you might want to consider are Gripping Beast's Dark Age livestock & Hovels. The latter is a bit of a punt as their website is rather short on photos though you might be able to find some elsewhere e.g. here

A couple of photos on a 10mm grid with one showing a Dwarf peasant with old Foundry sheep etc. and the other with slightly less old Foundry Darkest Africa livestock.

Brill.

Alas my pet peeve and that of many gamers has arisen.
I like that goat but do not want the rest of the models that come in the set, and £16.00 for a pack of animals for which I will only use 1 is a no go.
I will wait until the Irregular Website is back open and see what they have, their animals I find less irregular than their humans, and whilst even the good ones may not be as nice as the Foundry ones, they are available as separates.

For now though at least, Warbases will provide Sheep and Chickens.
Unless you have an urge to part with Black Philip?
