Never realised how rare this was.
Well... it's a wall calendar from 1992 from a (on a large scale of things) obscure niche company in Germany who didn't have any big distribution network outside of Germany. Finding one for myself will probably be hard, but it's not because of rarity but rather scarcity. If that makes sense. =)

It's like the Metal Magic minis no longer in production. They aren't rare as such, but there's no big community or cult around collecting Metal Magic so there's no market. On eBay there are maybe 10-20 relevant auctions (world wide) for Metal Magic miniatures at any given time. Unfortunately most of them are still in production minis listed as RARE L@@K at double the price they're sold for by the current manufacturer.

Thanks for posting the pics mate! I really liked the amount of conversions in that scifi pic!

For some reason, part of my friends and I weekend activities often included doing the rounds of miniature shops in the city of Melbourne. I don't know why we did it so often..... It wasn't as if they stocked new items that regularly, but we enjoyed it none the less.

One of the shops that we'd visit intermittently was called "Southern Cross Miniatures". For teenage boys relying on public transport it was quite difficult to get to. It was run by a strange guy who stocked a lot of eclectic stuff, and that's where I got it from.

I knew nothing about metal magic then, but I thought the dioramas were ace! I never saw their miniatures for sale in Melbourne, or if they were, I never noticed them!

It wasn't until a few years ago that I found out about EM4. I always thought the phagon beastmen were great looking miniatures, so I grabbed a bunch of them. I was lucky enough to pick up some cybertech guys at a games convention last year too.

Just out of curiosity phreedh, how do the orcs compare to citadel.... in height? Can you rank them up together or do they look out of place?

I'll get you a comparison photo tonight.

Thanks phreedh,

Here's May,

That last one is a little bland, isn't it? =)

Here's the comparison pic I promised.

I got one for the beastmen too, as I had them at hand.

Conclusion? Metal Magic minis are a bit weedier than citadel in general, but about the right height. The hobgoblins make perfect orcs and mix reasonably well with the old Citadel orcs. The orcs are a bit smaller than Citadel orcs and the goblins are about the same size as the orcs and don't mix well with the goofy Kev Adams gobbo.

Yeah, I don't really like it either, but for the purpose of completion I included it.

Thanks for the comparison shot, nicely done. In really tempted to pick some of their beasty range up, they look great. It's a shame they weren't able to market their minis better.

Here's the middle page spread of the calendar. One of my favourite dioramas,

Just posting to say that's an awesome calendar; thanks for posting the pictures. Very inspirational and it's obvious a lot of time went into the scenes.

Thanks for posting these, they are rather fabulous, aren't they?

I'm going to join in the general call for you to get these scanned ;)

Wow. I wants this calendar! Thanks for posting these. Did they just do the one or is there a series for me to try and discover? :)

Chaps, I have scans! =) Not the entire catalogue - but the main pic of every month. I just need clearance to pass them on.

Well, in Australia, to my knowledge, they just did the one, but that's not to say they didn't do more! Just not in my neck of the woods.

Phreedh, why would you want to have inferior quality scans, when can view HD phone camera pics right here? ;)

Here's November guys. It's the same as the centre page, but with a couple of close up shots.

And here's the last of them, December,

Hope you've enjoyed seeing these old dioramas, I still get a buzz looking at them.
