2025 Legacy Crew Market Day wrap up

Legacy Crew 2025 - Market Day
I managed to put a small scratch in one cover when I accidentally knocked it over against something or other. So you can scratch them, but it doesn't seem to be a general issue it was purely my carelessness.

You will be dead and buried before lead rot sets in though?
That is my plan to deal which such concerns.

I know I'm no spring chicken anymore, but lead rot can set in fast when you're not looking and I want to stick around at least a little longer before Nurgle's rot embraces me.

and in some weird way surprisingly coherent?
Totally agree. I'm assuming that's because markets are a mix of colours and different sights and smells from the surrounding regions so this is what we're subconsciously expecting - any clashes of colours and the different actions and roles of the miniatures doesn't jar in any way, unlike how it might if we were doing a warband or something more tightly coupled.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. Having a building as backdrop for group photo does also add to feeling of them being in their natural habitat, but in general when imagining how market day might look like clashing colours and minis doing wide variety of activities is definitely expected rather than not and it was really nice to see such great diversity in choice of minis people painted for this one.

Wow, that's an even bigger surprise! The Market Day Crew have arrived and they look amazing, it's a real privilege to have them. Thank you all - they're absolutely inspirational, I'd swear some of the details must have been painted with a single hair they're so fine.
I've been looking back to see who said it, and can't find it, but in one of the forum posts someone recently said something along the lines of "too many people give up because skill doesn't grow quickly enough to match desire". It was a timely reminder to see the excellence as motivation and inspiration - and to remind myself that I've really only picked the painting up about 8 months ago, and to give myself time to develop the skills to match the desire.

I'll post some pics once I've got some display set up, but might be a while as the utility room is stripped back to brick and concrete and I'd best not be taking hobby time until I've got it done (and my DIY skills need even more time to develop than my painting! 🤣)

^I respect that. It cuts into the cheap aftermarket figures I like to pick up, but I respect it. I'm still holding onto the dreams for at least a little longer myself. I suspect I won't get much more skill at this late date, but I'll keep trying anyway.

At this point my dream is just skill development more than any particular army or model goal (well, apart from one white whale I'm still hunting). Not really having much option to actually play, my dream is to have minis that I can be proud to look at, but also to develop the ability to give myself the grace to take the time to develop those skills and enjoy the process (which I am). I'm fighting many many years of being conditioned into believing that perfection isn't good enough. So your comment about holding on and giving yourself time struck a chord for me.
This community and the various micro-goals are helping keep me on track with motivation, as not having a 'deadline' the motivation could easily fade. Once I've got the utility room back up and running (boring grown up priorities 🤣), I'm going to set up a WIP/showroom thread for extra motivation.
I'm really glad I found this place. As an older bloke with interests that aren't the 'mainstream', I really appreciate the friendly, chatty atmosphere, with its distinct lack of gate keeping. It feels like I've found my tribe.
