Makari?

ManicMan

Lord
Okay.. bit light hearted discussion maybe.. but talking to someone (and point out why I hate alot of modern Citedel figures of older characters, by showing the original (and great) Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka (well, the original which wasn't a kitbash) and then showing the current one.. which is some thing with a human with slightly pointed ears inside a open dreadnought by the looks of things..) and I was commenting on now how the name 'Mag Uruk Thraka' is a pun on UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (The person i was talking to was a good norwegian friend of mine) when something started to bother me.. Maraki... apart from maybe a play on Makara (which can be indian but I'm more aware of it's history as a female Japanese name (means true sky so.. no real connection there) I can't figure out if there is any reference.. I would have thought a reference to Denis, Tebbit or even Kinnock.. but.. Maraki? any clues?

Maybe it's something contemporary with Maraki - when was it created?

IIRC just 'Ghazghkull' was the original version (WD134) and Mag Uruk Thraka got added at some later point? That would have been years after Thatcher was PM, so John Major maybe.

maybe.. the official figure was.. 1992, at which time he had his full name.. (2 years after Margaret Thatcher left).

Just looking into it a bit more.. Makari pre-dates Ghazghkull bit a bit.. There is a story about Makari the Gretchen in the Waaargh- Da Orks supplement.. BUT.. ah.. In the original version, of Ghazghkull, it already had the ful name 'Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka'. White Dwarf #134 takes pages from the ''Ere we go' Orks book which was 1991 (well, copyright was) and the Custom figure was not only in that (since it was the article from that taken for White Dwarf, as was there want in the 90s) but for the section on Andy Chambers building his Sample Goff warband, he not only gives some information on his own creation of Ghazghkull, but it states his name is 'Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka', with his warband being 'Ghazghkull Tarknash', meanwhile Jervis Johnson gives a Snakebite Warband (Ugulhardz Chargerz) lead by Ugulhard, Robin Dews does a Blood Axe Warband (Waa-Bogrot) led by Bogrot.

I don't remember Ugulhard or Bogrot getting picked up for special character statues later on though..
