Hello.

I think most of people here have seen this wonderful interview to Rick Priestley:

At 16:42 mark aprox, he talks about the missing rules from the combat results that no one discovered. Did you know about these missing rules?

First I thought about the combat result table in the Q&A article published on WD #136, but there are no actual changes there, only a rewrite of the same rules.

Any thoughts about this? What do you think which would be these rules? Are they really missing or we could have any hint about them? I've asked this same question elsewhere and they told me that maybe these missing rules were the countercharge reaction, but it wasn't in 2nd edition, only in 1st edition, so I don't think so?

I have no idea, the rules seem to make sense (as much as any edition does) and really can't fathom what could be missing.
TBF, he also said some things that were clearly not correct, so this may be another slip up.

⏲ Please note there was roughly a 2 year gap between these posts ...

I think I can shed a little light on this. My first copy of WFB3 was bought second-hand from the Nottingham University Role-playing and Wargaming Society when they sold off their club stock in 1995. (I got two unused Warhammer Regiments boxes too; it was a good buy!) The rulebook definitely had a page, although I can’t remember which, which had a fairly substantial duplicated portion of text. I’m 90% certain that it was in the basic rules section though.

When I finally bought another copy of the rulebook some years ago, it didn’t have that error. My assumption is that the first print run had the mistake and it was corrected for later print runs.

I don’t have the ex-Uni copy any more; I sold it on ebay after I got the replacement. However, if it’s still out there it should be easy to identify - it had “NOTTINGHAM RPG SOC” written on the front endpaper in big letters.

⚠ Please note that until the post above this thread had been inactive for about 2 years ...

I'm willing to guess it covered things like multiple combats or situations where units cannot be pushed back due to terrain or other units. These seem to be obvious omissions, with hindsight.

There is a bit in the advanced rules about the direction of push backs from multiple combats, but I have yet to find anything to clarify the following points:
  • In a multiple combat, does every unit add combat result bonuses to their sides' total? Rank bonuses, standards, etc.

  • If units have turned models to face enemies in their flank or rear, can those models still contribute to rank bonus for combat results?

  • Can models fight in close combat via corner to corner base contact?

  • What happens when the losing unit/s in a multiple combat get pushed back away from winning units, and some winning units cannot physically move back into contact via a follow up move?
I'm happy to make GM decisions on the above but I'm interested to see if anyone found official answers anywhere.

-In a multiple combat, does every unit add combat result bonuses to their sides' total? Rank bonuses, standards, etc.

Yeah there is a diagram on page 64 that shows 3 example scenarios. In each scenario it refers to each unit in the combat.
(not the biggest unit, or the unit at the front, but each unit)
Later in advanced rules it also alludes to this as it talks about a unit that was ganged up on, not unsurprisingly losing the combat.

-Can models fight in close combat via corner to corner base contact?

No, page 60 states only models in Frontal base to base may fight. "Striking A Blow"

-What happens when the losing unit/s in a multiple combat get pushed back away from winning units, and some winning units cannot physically move back into contact via a follow up move?

Then they cant follow up?
But what sistutaion would there be when a unit can't follow up?

-If units have turned models to face enemies in their flank or rear, can those models still contribute to rank bonus for combat results?

I cant see anywhere it says not, also worth noting that rank bonuses are based on ranks at the start of the round, not after casulties are factored.

So a block of 5 x 5 does some fighting and loses 20 men say, it still gets the +3 rank bonus as that is what it had at the start of the round.
