Let's open a citadel colour paint set!

I just snagged a sealed citadel colour paint set. What wonderful nostalgic feelings as I tore off the shrinkwrap. I thought I'd include some photos of the contents in case others would enjoy by proxy.

The first thing we see is a "How to Paint" pamphlet. It is very brief, and contains the sort of mostly useless, step-skipping advice typical of the time.

And I figure the time is post-1993, so not terribly old. It comes with two miniatures - a plastic one piece chaos warrior and a space marine. Also a "starter brush" and of course these wonderful paints. I immediately set about using these to paint some squats.

I'm reminded of how much better these paints are than contemporary options. The colors are so vivid. And what this set cost me was far cheaper than buying equivalent modern citadel paints.

Nice! Great find, good selection of useful colours there too. I have been looking at Coat D'arms paints a bit recently - you very likely already know but they made Citadels first line of paints in the round pots and still make the same colours under slightly different names. I think when some of my current pots run out I'll try them instead.

I do indeed! But I am in the U.S. and have been reluctant to bother ordering paint internationally. If they had a U.S. distributor I might give it a go.

Good old hex pots! In 1998 my then local GW had a sale to coincide with the release of 3rd edition 40k. They had 100s of 'old' hex pots for 10 pence each. I wish I'd bought 10 times what I did!

Had you done so, it would still be good to use today!
Amazing that paint I bought two years ago is garbage, but that this stuff is perfect.

Love the hex paints, have quite a few myself. I'm after the army paint sets they used to have for well nostalgic reasons.

I am with you, Chico. I also picked up the Ork and Eldar set recently. I am loving using the old paints.
