Knavecon Scenario

Okay lads, how we doing?

A concern arises. Participation games are notoriously hard on the minis involved, and we are planning on using some pretty rare and rather precious minis here. I propose a strict policy of 'careful now' with players, and at least one of us to be on hand at all times for slapping heads if needs be. I mean helping. Helping of course.

I'll get a draft of the map up this week.

To be honest I am having nightmares about your painstakingly modeled Fimir being ham handedly sent flying to an early grave. We don't have to use our "A models" for this one - we can always use some of our more robustly constructed collection.

I don't see us as needing more than 40 or so models on the table what with the Mordheim rules being used.

I presume you mean 40 or so per side?

The main thing is that the participants have a small number of models to worry about, likely (+/-)7 models each.

There are likely to be more halflings than anything else, being as they will be quite central to the action one way or another.

I was planning on getting a bunch of old grenadier lizardmen done up to add to the 17 odd Slann I have done, I anticipate that that will be lots for Mordheim.

It go's without saying that if we are using our "dress miniatures" we need to be extra vigilant about the handling of models. Be wary of thieves also, I am sure we have all seen many a character model go missing at conventions.

Like I said earlier, I am not married to the concept of using display quality minis for use by the unwashed masses, we could easy make up a bunch of Chaos Raiders from our lead piles - we could each speedpaint a warband perhaps?

We want to promote Oldhammer in the most delicious way possible, but I'd really rather not have to murder someone for mangling a mistmor. Hmm. It's a dilemma.

One thing Victor was very happy with at the last one was the respect shown to the games, afaik no damage was done, nothing was nicked and even stuff that was left behind ended up with its proper owners. I say take the chance, there are 4 of us to look after the stuff.

Having said that I'm not bringing the rarest of my halflings with me.

It won't be too bad to keep a close eye on proceedings as it is only a 1 day thing after all. Might be an idea to exclude any particularly delicate pieces though if there is a more robust substitution that can be made.

Yeah. I think Crom might be staying at home, though I've just finished these which would be fun to use as something or other.

Looks good. It would be nice to see more homestead type buildings to give a halfling village vibe. From the player point of view they will want to "get off the boats" and quickly close with the objectives (the halflings and their homes) to do a smash and grab before serious reinforcements arrive. The halflings and their homes should be on a fairly broad front, facing the sea where the raiders will arrive.

I am thinking that we should probably have some kind of village center area where about half of the halflings and houses would be and where the more professional halfling soldiery would muster from - some kind of Town Watch building would be perfect. The scenario could allow for some sneaking in of the attackers (if they manage to co-operate that is ;) ) until the alarm gets raised and defenders can muster from the town watch - this could start the Slann relief force ticker.

I am liking that road - either end of it could be a reinforcement point for the relief columns.

Do we need to make up some village huts and the like?

I'm seriously lacking in houses. I can muster up a tower, but I reckon that's about it. I'm still looking for some old card stock buildings, but no joy so far.

I was given a PDF of some suitable old buildings a few years ago. I have it somewhere if you wanted to go that route. I am sure that there are better, more modern alternatives available, but with a couple of weeks to go that night be a good way to get that 3rd ed feel.

OK, I will try to get a few huts and the like done before then - I have a few half finished already.

They are nothing special but are about the right scale for halflings. Should be able to complete these at the least before the day:

Something like a fishing pier would be pure gold for this and might not be too much effort....we will see what we get done I guess.
