Kev Adams Chaos Dwarf Warband by Paimon Miniatures

Just not properly dressed without a 4-foot hat.
I forget who he was interviewing, but someone on the Jordan Sorcery podcast was describing the back and forth process between one or both Perry twins and Bryan Ansell* on 'those' miniatures. Apparently the greens got sent back several times with instructions to make the hats taller.

*As I understand it at this time all new miniature sculpts had to approved by a board presided over by Bryan Ansell who had very particular views on how certain things should look. I think more than one rejected miniature got resubmitted with no changes whatsoever and passed on review, which is a process familiar to any of us who have ever sent a report or publication for editing or approval.

Yes, also mentioned in Talking Miniatures, I believe it was Rick Priestley acting as the go-between, or possibly (more likely) Alan Merrett. Bryan was in America on business so he didn't actually see the greens, just had them described to him (possibly faxed?) and he said "I know the Perrys, they'll be too small, make them bigger!" Curious, because the Chaos Dwarfs were only released in 1992 and Bryan had left the company two years previously. Perhaps they were just shelved to await a lull in the release schedule. Sensible move given how unpopular they were.

time fades even legend.

without the paper trail, one persons memory will have holes, by faded over time, and/or will only be from one angle. What one person thinks was a mistake, the other might have done it in purpose but didn't tell anyone.

Deffo Rick Priestley who recalls the chaos stunties plus hats. Around 3 mins in he says Bryan had idea (Babylonian /Assyrian style evil dwarves) and John Blanche had rustled up some sketches. They were a legacy from WHFB 3e, as by time they were in metal, Rick thinks Bryan had left 4e, but it was his last project so he used to ring up and he discussed with Rick on Perry's modelling of range-and them being obsessed with historicals(!) - Bryan thought the hats would be too small. See at 5:40 mins in... :D
