Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: Runequest Scorpion Men

Thanks Con-Fusion! It really is fun to have these old, weird minis as a stress-free project. Makes a Nice break from the zombie hordes for Zombicide :).

Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: Runequest Scorpion Men

Hello all,
Been busy re-photographing my Heroquest minis (better camera and light sources), so figured I would show some of them here as well. More pictures can be found at http://warmasterdk.blogspot.dk/2014/05/heroquest-mighty-heroes-ready-to-rumble.html for the heroes, here http://warmasterdk.blogspot.dk/2014/05/heroquest-fimir-and-greenskins.html for the greenskins, and here: [url=http://warmasterdk.blogs...rmasterdk.blogspot.dk/2014/05/ ... tadel.html[/url]for the rest for the evil bad guys. None will ever win any prizes, but they were fun to paint and playing a game with panited miniatures is always, always more satisfying!
The Heroes

There is little to say regarding their paintjobs - quick and fun, the minis are surprisingly well sculpted (they are a bit square, though) and little effort was required.

The ultimate bad guys from Heroquest: Chaos Sorcerer, Warrior bodyguard and undead henchmen. Not that they are that difficult to slay, they just look cooler than the other monsters on the block.

You have to love a good splatter of gore :)

Nice to see a flesh coloured Orc occasionally too!

Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: a ton of Heroquest Min

Love that blood! And gotta love painting those hero quest miniatures - i just finished one of the orcs myself actually. - Planning to get the entire set painted - sooo many projects.

Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: a ton of Heroquest Min

Hi chaps - yes, those heroquest minis are fun to paint, a bit rough here and there, but full of character. And they do seem to scream for a bit of gore and blood splatter :).
I find the caucasian-coloured orcs work really well - I'll try a few goblins and a fimir in those colours next time the heroquest minis manage to get into the painting queue.

All the best,
Kasper

Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: a ton of Heroquest Min

Hello all,
So, delving deep into the intimidating pile of unpainted lead, I found a couple of old beastmen. One is a classic Citadel, while the other is a somewhat odd creature from Harlequin. Now it is odd, not because of mutations or similar extravaganza, but because it carries a Crossbow, and looks like it knows how to use it. I wouldn't normally agree with the notion of a beastman using such 'sophisticated' weaponry, but hey, this is Chaos! You can complain to the big mutated chap in the head office...

I painted both of them to match the "Beastie Boys", a Slaaneshi warband led by the minotaur Akward - e.g. humanoid flesh, purple horns and hoof (the still small warband can be seen here: http://warmasterdk.blogspot.dk/2014/04/beastie-boys-beastial-parts-of.html).
I think they turned out fine, and it is always interesting to see how the old miniatures rank up.

Smada'Vek, on the left, is the old Harlequin beastman. I remember buying it primarily because I needed Crossbows and fancied giving him a different weapon, although this never happened. I think I have one or two more of this type.
It was originally marketed as 7303 Beastmen Crossbows, it was designed by Kev Adams in ca. 1996. It is still available, and sold by Black Tree Design as part of the HM1152 Beastmen Crossbows (3).

His companion is the unnamed Beastman number 7, sculpted by Michael Perry in ca. 1994. I find it a great shame they stopped giving their minis suitable names, but as a result this beast didn't get a fancy name but it did get its very own line in the 1995/96 Citadel catalogue:

The two actually fit each other. The Perry one is hunched over, but if it stood straight there would be little different in their bulk.

So the only difference is in their weaponry and if you are in the market for a crossbow wielding Beastman (perhaps for a chaotic warband), then this would be a cheap and nice-looking solution.

They'll join Akward soon, and might even allow the photographer to stay alive long enough for a group photo to be taken :).
In the meantime there are more pictures of the two on my blog (http://warmasterdk.blogspot.dk/2014/05/old-beastmen-harlequin-and-citadel.html) and they will be joined by a horde of beastmen from Fenris Miniatures soon - just need to finish basing them...

All the best,
Kasper

Re: Kasper's Omnia Oddities (updated: Harlequin/Citadel Beas

So it's been a while since I've posted anything but that has mainly been because I decided I needed to rebase the entire warband on those lovely resin bases from Fenris. This took a while to get done and in the meantime I had a ever growing collection of miniatures waiting to be photographed :).
The first to step into the spotlight (carrying a fetching mace and shown next to this years favourite accessory, a tombstone) is one of the best minotaurs Citadel ever made:

A nasty bugger, perhaps more suited for a Khornate warband, but as my project is centred on Slaanesh I've continued the purplish horns, hoofs, etc.

I think he turned out fine - more pictures on the blog.
I've just finished photographing all forty members of the (all-too-large) warband and will be posting them over the next few weeks.

All the best,
Kasper
