July Blanche (July)

I am now facing a dilemma… just got back from a couple of games of Mordheim and my warband have recruited an ogre mercenary.

Do I proceed using muggings above or the slightly more appropriately kitted Hrothyogg who I picked up at Lead & Steel in April?

Hrothyogg of course appears in another of John’s classic paintings and the model would certainly benefit from a good prime coat (possibly made from a dubious batch of lead).

Can I vote for both!

How I wish this was my entry for the month!

I've just seen this ebay auction that I alas missed: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127957043901
The creator has done a lovely diorama based off the Skeleton Hordes artwork and I thought you'd all enjoy seeing it if you'd not already:

Thought that was rather good and on theme! There are a few more photos on the original auction listing (although that will disappear in a month or so). Hopefully they don't mind us snagging a photo or two to enjoy here for posterity.

Ok, here is my Hrothyogg!

Need to varnish him for gaming (he scored me another win in the Mordheim campaign against some skaven earlier!) and gloss the dark metal of his sword, but otherwise done!

For a moment i thought you had done that yourself in the month and was about to sit somewhere between awe of your talents and suspicious about your adherence to 'monthly' challenges!

And the final price seems seems quite reasonable for what is a serious amount of work - not sure where I would have been able hanging it in the house though. Doesn't really fit with the 'Moroccan Sands 5' vibe we've got going on...

Picked a mini for this and made a start but... yeah. Been a bit of a faceplant, first time I think I'm going to have to send a mini back to the dettol in a while. As I'm about to head out of the country for 3 weeks I'll have to put this one on the back burner but maybe I'll have fresh ideas when I get back.

Oh well! Good to have a reminder that not everything works first time.

It does happen. My most recent were a Hydra miniature I thought - damn it I'm going to try painting this bright and hated the colour I selected, that just got re-primed. Before that my ghosts - I used a waterproof white ink for the underpaint layer highlighting and the Army Painter speed paint I used just re-activated it and everything turned into a mess. That did need stripping and starting over.

So I managed to complete my mini Johannus Knoxious of the Order Hereticus based on Azreal Grand Master of the Blood Angels mini with additions following John's ideas from the page in my earlier post. I'm going to continue this idea a bit further watch out for more John inspired attempts soonish, (or really after I recover from cataract surgery on Monday).johannus knoxious front.JPG

How's the grim dark background, too dark?

As always comments and criticism encouraged.

The scripture is a little thick of line and not sure what he aiming at with the gun in the air (victory fire maybe)?
Otherwise fun conversion and suitably grimdark! 👍💀
