Jeff's finished projects 2016

Jeff McC

Vassal
Time to start my annual project thread. As in years past, my goal is to post the things I finish this year, regardless of how many years (decades?) ago they were started. As always, fair warning that it may not all be wonderful old lead, that said, they'll usually be related to my oldhammer gaming in some fashion. (e.g. new minis feeding my 3rd edition forces).

To start the year off, my 11 year old needed some playing pieces for a game he's working on as a school project based on explorers and Magellan in particular. With his solemn promise that I would get them back, it seemed like the perfect motivator to paint a few of the ships from Mighty Empires. With the guidance that "They need to be different colors, Dad.", I've gotten 4 ships ready to go. (probably the first mighty empires pieces I've painted in a decade...or more.)

In hind-sight, I probably should have made the back of the sails a bit brighter white...oh well, not changing it now.

Thanks for the kind comments.
It looks like some Mordheim is in my near future, so I've pulled some fresh skaven from the lead pile and put together and painted a warband. Characters first:I already had the Assassin adept painted, The other is my Eshin Sorcerer
These two will be my Black Skaven
And these skaven slave models will be Night Runners

I managed to meet my deadline and get the 6 models I needed for my second warband painted (although now that I've seen them several times life sized in the photos, I've a few touch ups to do :( ).

Thanks, guys.
My opponent's been providing the vast majority of the terrain for out Mordheim games, so I thought I'd better start contributing some as well. Here's my first attempt at Mordheim terrain. I think I'm going to say this one was originally a warehouse, but I think I need to focus a bit more on what the building was before it became a ruin, before building another.

Finished a second Mordheim building yesterday. I think the construction logic is a bit better on this one, though I still havent' accounted well for windows...

We're using the random happenings rules, so I painted a bloodletter in case someone rolls a 15, (modern one - sadly I've none of the old ones) as I didn't have a painted one in my collection. I also painted up a Battleforge halfling to use as a halfling scout, since none of my painted halflings had a bow.

I've finished up a few more skaven. First up, a sorcerer and a hero. Followed by some skaven slaves. Eventually these 3 will all get shields...

I've finished up my next building, a ruined tower - should serve for both Warhammer and Mordheim. I ended up with some stray glue resisting the stain on the boards, but I think it adds to the ruined feel. (Happy accident, but I'll take it) This is my first attempt building with insulation foam, reasonable results in the end, but, the coat of latex paint I had on it wasn't enough to protect the foam completely when I hit them with a clearcoat spray. *grump* Some repainting later, I think I'm satisfied with the results.

One of the fine friends I had the chance to make in England, felt that the lack of proper bloodletters in my collection needed to be put right. 6 bloodletters arrived in the mail (the post) about a month ago, and such a fine gift requires immediate painting! They went to the head of the queue, along with their plastic cousins. Half of the fun with Oldhammer is, of course, the back story, so...
These are the proud remnants of the once mighty hunting pack of Khorne, known as the Renders of Bone, who slew the Mighty Keeper of Secrets Ag'grhakg'geo, known to the Elves as Thrust Spasm the Warp Tainted. They bear her skull aloft as their standard, and will allow none to join their number until they place the skull at the foot of Khorne's Brass Throne. They are lead by Gr'aag'ik, who struck the killing blow, known among mortals as Skull Taker the Ever Thirsting.

Of course you all want to see the pictures...

I went for obsidian, rather than the traditional Iron blades, as I liked the contrast of the green against the red.

Re-discovered this goblin in the leadpile, and I suddenly felt the need to paint him with a non-green flesh tone...I think he just looked too serious for my standard bright green gobbo treatment. Bought and based him long enough ago, that I'm not sure of the manufacturer (but it's not GW).
