Ian Miller/Osmoticmeld - The Hounds of Hell

Osmoticmeld - The Hounds of Hell

The Kickstarter goes live later this month.

The sculpts are beautiful. There's Ian Miller inspired chaos knights, warriors, thugs, demons, hounds and even a god. My only grumble is that they'll mostly be resin, not metal. I'll definitely be taking a look once it goes live.

wonder how much they had to pay for that license.. as it's directly sold as Ian Miller inspired (and shown his art and how on model). If they haven't got the rights to the art and his name.. then... going on something soo public as KS is.. an interesting choice but I'll choose to believe they got the license.

fair enough figures but too fussy for my tastes when it comes to painting.

Hi @ManicMan Osmoticmeld is a collaboration between Ian Millar and John (Myriad Miniatures), so all official and above board.

I've been thinking of how the hell you would paint these. I entered the Golden Gobbo with an Osmoticmeld orc that was a real pig to paint. But if you look at Miller's colour pieces he tends to keep things restricted to 3-4 colours per character, with the baroque quality coming from all the fine linework rather than fussy colouring in. My current plan would be to drybrush white over a black undercoat and then block out colours with thinned paint, then use inks to get into all the fussy bits. But like Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". I'm sure it's a lot easier in my head than in reality.

^_^ yep, just one thing that always comes to mind when I see such thing.. probably cause one way to really screw 'fan' stuff is to do it like that.. (boy, if you know how many 'fan films' though they were being smart and fans by deciding that crowdfunding by using official names without permission was a great idea and screws it for everyone else). Nice to hear they did it well like that.

Did he do his own colouring? I mean, alot do but sometimes it's always a surprise which ones don't and most of his art I've seen (that I remember) is black and white art.

Been following this Kickstarter for a while and salivating every time new work in progress shots are posted on Instagram!!
If it means the casts can be finer and more cost productive, I am not fussed that will be in resin.
Used a similar painting technique for the ones that I picked up last year, but didn’t quite work out in the way I intended. May revisit those minis sometime…
Oh and there is an interview about the project in the latest Shadows of Centralis https://shadowsofcentralis.com/monthly-magazine-issue-38-june-2025/

Yep, he started out painting SF book covers in the '70s. I think his use of colour is as iconic as his linework. He also retained the rights to the majority of his GW output.

I think he worked on Wizards doing designs (hell, look at the poster ^_^) and maybe something else.

Personally, I like alot of Bakshi though there is one film he did which was kinda awful because of what it did... Wizards was really his first take on fantasy.

Oh, I forgot to say, something I wanted to, I love Bakshi's moralistic side too. He did a nice series called 'Spicy City' which was a sci-if cartoon anthology series. He used writers and people who weren't traditional and it worked well. It was a hit but then HBO (who paid for it etc) decided for series 2, he was to fire all his writers and stuff and they had a more traditional writer pool. They didn't like that he didn't use such writers for it. So he basically told them where to go and there was no series 2. Don't get as many people willing to stand by their views like.

I remember reading 'The City' graphic novel when I did work experience in a library, loved the art. Even before I was familiar with his Warhammer work I thought he was the mutts nuts.

Who's arts more grimdark? Miller or Blanche?

Ooh. I'll have a search for that.

I think Blanche for Grimdark, but Miller is much much weirder and nails Chaos for me (like a really bad trip). Both are amazing.

The first series has models based on that GN https://myriadminiatures.com/product-category/osmotimeld/

Blanche had more of an influence on the Warhammer setting (what with being the art director and longtime concept artist), but Miller certainly had an interesting impact on the aesthetic of the early years too. He is known to have concepted Necromunda scavies, but am not sure whether he was involved with other mini concept art?

I plan on getting some of these, and using only the limited palette afforded by the Army Painter Blanche sets. Maybe I’ll need more washes though. A bit of an experiment using inspiration from the greats.

Might possibly be Siocast? The first KS minis are lovely, although I've not painted mine yet - partially because as others have alluded to I'm not quite sure how!

Wonder how many points this lot will be, might knock up a list later for a rough idea. Khorne naturally as I always see Khorne runes in his art.

What Gods are you guys going for if anyone gets these?
