I got me some Fungoid Fever!!!

Sorry. I don't usually do this sort of thing, but I recently purchased a copy of Attack of the Fungoid Trolls. I know that probably doesn't mean much to anyone but it was a scenario written by Bryan Ansell and Richard Halliwell for the Reaper Fantasy Wargame Rules (themselves written by Richard Halliwell and Rick Priestly), published by Tabletop Games in the 80s.

It's cool, I love it, it took about five years to find a copy, and now I finally have it. Lol!

Huzzahhhh!
Please don't say you found it on ebay ;)
Because my saved search didn't notify me.
Any chance of a scan? I'd love to play that scenario some time.

Congratulations! There's nothing quite like finding that rare treasure or a first edition. Great feeling. I wish you joy of your find.

Cheers TQV - it's a funny thing.

Ah, no, not on ebay. I go on about it at quite some length on me blog, to cut a long long story short, I bought it from http://www.shopontheborderlands.co.uk

If I ever see another copy for sale I'll be sure to give you the heads-up!

It's a very quirky scenario and now and again I keep returning to my copy and wondering if it would make a good BOYL game

Aha, you're the only other person who has ever admitted to owning a copy! I'd be interested to know how you'd go about formatting the scenario for convention play. I wonder if Bryan still has some 15mm armies in his collection... :)

I haven't explored the idea in depth (in fact I still haven't read it right through!) but I think I would prefer to play it in 25/28mm rather than 15mm.

I think I picked my copy up a few years ago as part of a job lot of reaper/laserburn booklets. In fact, for some time I assumed it was still in print, and had been recently bought by the original owner, because it is in mint condition.

Yeah a 28mm game using period accurate figures could be awesome, by my reckoning there 24 giants, 30 ogres, 20 trolls, 180 cavalry 60 foot troops, 3 dragons and about 20 characters to do it full-size. I think Foundry do some of the Perrys 1970s Citadel Historicals that could be used for the humans. The scenario also lends itself to a kind of skirmish warband size thing, and as there are set objectives it could even be ran as a tournament (shock!) although I think to get the best out of Reaper it needs to be played as a mass battle game. There are certainly lots of possibilities beyond just archeogaming it by-the-book!

I'm pretty sure there was only one print run, not only the complete scarcity of Fungoid Trolls in the marketplace (not discounting that someone has a box of hundreds of them in a storage dungeon somewhere) -but that Reaper got no other support. Laserburn got a whole bunch of supplements and still has something of a playerbase and is still in print, and I'm guessing that is because it was commercially viable to do so, wheras Reaper didn't sell, possibly due to the success of Warhammer and people just doing Fantasy with Ancients rules like WRG.

Cheers for the tip off Zhu :)
