That shield is fantastic. I especially like the eye. Although to this day I have never worked out how JB did such small checks on the shield rims. I was kind of hoping it wasn't talent and patience in equal measure as I have neither really! Great paint job on a wonderful figure.
I think he used micron or fine architectural line pens to establish lines?
I used that trick on my Fae Queen’s harlequin tights (albeit first baby steps attempt at the technique!!).

A straightforward and singular contribution to this challenge - Foundry reissue of this old Citadel F2 fighter chap. I've colour matched him with some Heroquest henchmen I painted a few years ago so he can be part of a warband with them, otherwise he can join the massed unit of assorted polearm wielders in my ragtag Empire army.
Love it. Those ragtag halberdiers will always be my idea of the empire rather than the more formalised landsknecht stuff that came later. And nothing wrong with singular contributions to painting challenges. Not least as that's all I ever manage!

I was looking over the Warhammer Armies Empire list the other day after discussions on the development of the line and it seems to me that both ragtag militia and regimented army types existed side by side (literally!) back then.

I know there is a tendency to dismiss later plastic sets on here, but the Free Company Militia set returned that side of the list to the army after the 4th Ed lent more towards the landsknecht aesthetic.
