How Long Do You Do It For?

Helleblitzen - Crop.png

Now I appreciate the time it takes to play a game depends on points, rules version, scenario objectives, etc etc.

But just roughly:

What edition?
How long in hours?
(How many turns?)
(How many points?)

I am not trying to collate data or prove any arcane point that WFB 3rd edition is better ;)

I am just curious.

Probably not the best market choice/cross section for reply, but... 1. WHFB 1e then 2e + RT 1st edition, 4xdecades ago.
2. Usually at any mates house say 10am til 6pm or until we got kicked out/teatime for the family. At the Zion games club on a Sunday it was 11am til 4pm I think or until church warden locked us out. Take setting up, breaks & usual arguments, laughter & pissing about by us teenagers usually left us with good solid 4 hours or so. We rarely finished a game if more than 4 of us, someone usually conceded or couldn't be arsed/sulked. Funny as... :D
3. Depended if freeplay or GW scenario/White dwarf led.
4. As above. Rarely used points unless figured by above. Turn up and played WYSIWYG I guess, then argued the toss on 'balance'. Looser, less serious and funnier it was back then. We played to the spirit of the game I would like to think.
Played WH40k (8/9th Ed) since and similar timescale, keep to biggish skirmish games though, and story led for objectives. Fun times for kids, & not serious. Still the eldest lad & his mates get competitive and fall out. But continuing cycle of life.

... Forgot to add they hate losing these kids nowadays! 😀 Back in the day we had 3e but we all went off to uni/college, life happened & then got rid. I now have 2e + ravening hordes, 3e + armies. Have 4e,5e & 6e but just rules, no supplements, codices and on reading them no real intention of playing them I guess.

wfb1-3, wh40k:rt, and lots of non-GW rulesets.
until a resolution has been reached - i am usually the one hosting the games, which involved writing the scenarios, and they almost always have objectives.
i prefer skirmish gaming, so games don't tend to take more than 4 hours, but i have space to keep things set up, so they can extend over multiple days if necessary.
