How do you feel about converting old miniatures?

When minis were all metal I'd have said go for it...now I'd say... why are you damaging an antique. Some minis are broken, and in my opinion, anything done to revive them is fine...but cutting up perfectly good oldhammer stuff...seems wrong to me... It's yours so I don't really have a say...just an opinion.
Plus it depends on how good a kitbasher you are... 90% of all conversions and kitbashes are poor quality. So I'd say unless you're a boss at it...leave well alone. It's just an opinion. Do what you want though..

I certainly like the idea of “archaeo-modeling/painting” (period model, period paints) but if you’re not going all the way, feel free to hack up and convert these models.
Ultimately a question of style and approach, they are no more or less art objects either way.
