How big is too big? Chariots of the Mortals

I don't have a photo right now but been working on a chariot.. Problem is size. Unless I go for buying more and customising them, I want to have the figures on the chariot (atleast the 'passenger of the two main crew) to be removeable and playable off the Chariot. Very much as a way into battle. As a result, this creates a required size. For what I'm aiming to use this for, I use 30mm bases. So the bar minimal size the platform can be is pretty much 30x60 (could get away with one being a bit shorter for some over hang) but then when you look at it against some figures on other size bases (or even on the same bases just next to it) kinda get the idea the chariot is pretty bloody big for what it is. Also get the feeling when I put the animal crew on it, it's really gonna look a bit weird.

I guess big and chunky kinda works with the intended force its with but also seams a bit unfair like if you are using figures at a completely different scale.

With the wheels being 3mm thick, and a bit of trimming for the sizes and front, the platform (base) of the chariot is about 48mm x 67mm.. so if it was given a base which I kinda planned on, it would be atleast 70mm wide.. that's.. pretty chunky.

So kinda wondering what peoples views are for such things.. for a 2 man crew, it just seams a bit on the big side but short of having one of both or the crew un-based on stuck on the chariot all the time, I don't see much way around the issue.

so the figures can be mounted on chariot OR base (by adding magnets to the base like that too)... possible.. the figures are a little chunky too though.. probebly anything less then a 25mm base is too small for them. (trying to measure them next to what I got close at hand right now is a pain.. Dwarfs are, of course, small. Jes Goodwin Skaven are small and only a bit above dwarf size, and the giant and ogre are.. a much bigger ^_^;

would require drilling small holes in the feet.. tricky but probably doable.. so that's an option.

I did try to look at a few histoical images and then some minitures.. I'll try to get a photo over the weekend. I made up a prototype (laser cut base, with card cause I didn't have the thiner wood I wanted for some bits).. I could make bits a bit smaller without too much issue but... yeah..

Just put a ... I can't remember how produced Wolf which is on a 25mm base (did it a while back as a bit of a test.. base isn't very well done). For one animal to pull this.. yeah.. I think it's way too big.. maybe cut in half but still.. gonna be tricky..

My standard practice is the width of a standard base for the draft creature and the length, however far it needs to be to fit-in the chariot and crew - usually 50mm by a 100mm.
