Have you ever sold something and regretted it immediately?

So about two months ago, I was skint and trying to find something valuable to sell, I ended up listing my Bretonnian Questing Knights collection amongst a few other things. I thought what they mean to me and how long they took to collect and arrived at a price of £2,250 for all 20. They were not going to be painted any time soon and I thought if you want to pay that then you can have them and give them the paint jobs they deserve... Well it turns out I undervalued them because the other day they sold and I feel like the heart of my collection has been ripped out still beating!
I had the same feeling years ago when I sold my Amazing Spider-Man collection of comics (near full run). And it hurts! Both almost irreplaceable.

Did you ever sell something and wish you hadn't soon after?

Also.... Anyone selling any QK's? Or ASM? LOL

I have not sold much, I am more of a "if it does not spark joy I give it away to someone who might cherish it more"-kind of guy. I think it stems from that I enjoy seeing stuff going to people and places where it gets to shine more - and also because selling things is a hurdle and a hustle for me. Often it takes more energy and time listing and shipping something than what I feel I get back for that effort.

Regarding what I have given away or sold I feel like I need to be mindful of why those items ended up flowing away from me. It could be a need to shrink a collection, an abandoned project, or regretting a purchase after awhile. Even if I have found myself second-guessing my choices one time or another I always end up accepting it all over again since I am at peace with the fact that at that particular time when the miniatures found another home it was the right thing for me to do.

Also, even though I have already collected enough things to never be able to fully beat the backlog I have at least become a little better of not giving in to the marvelous madness that is buying everything I need for every little creative idea or project that pops up in my mind. Yeah sure it is cool that I can imagine a certain army rocking a certain theme - and I know exactly how I would convert it and paint it up - but actually following through to the end is hard when that newest impulse purchase competes with all the already ongoing projects that I have. So just because I can imagine what I would do with certain miniatures that I am keen on collecting does not mean that I should try and get a hold of them. This is stemming from having been there way too many times. So now I find myself having to slim down the number of purchases I make, and also try and hold back the urge to buy new things (and also hold back the urge to yearn for the things I have decided to let go).

I have heard that one should never sell anything that one has already painted since it will only bring regret but I find that to not be entirely true. However, I tend to keep the things I have painted as a sort of vehicle for remembering times, games, and people that I have played with. A form of nostalgia, to be sure. And painted miniatures can always come in handy in some way down the line, I reckon. Whether it be rebasing them to play a new kind of game or using them for (at least to me) unforseen purposes like roleplaying games or similar.

£2,250 for all 20
Over £100 per torso?!

I've never sold a miniature. I think some people on here have units larger than my entire collection, so that might not be saying much.

I am not so attached to the stuff that is still new in the box. I am more fond of the stuff I painted & especially the stuff that saw the gaming table. But I don't think I have anything someone would pay £100 for, so...

I rather regret selling all my AD&D 2nd Ed Planescape bits and pieces, but realistically I wasn't going to use them again and hardly ever actually read them. They went to someone who was delighted to get them and at a good price (for me), so that's some consolation. I do however kinda miss it all on the shelves now! I think also the Battlefleet Gothic stuff - I settled on War Rocket as my space combat game and decided to part with the BG stuff since it was (and I assume still does) selling very well on ebay. Some pangs of regret as I always loved the idea even if I hardly ever played it.

It sounds like it was necessary at the time. The emergency has hopefully passed, and that'll have dimmed the memory of the need but it's gutting all the same. I keep buying things to finish sets with the view they'll be worth something in the future. But then I find it very hard to part with anything

Not so much as sold, as traded in the hope that I would get something I was looking for, at some point in the future and I'm still waiting Mr Freeman!

Not so much figures as I can always buy them again, but I did buy this Nirvana 7" when it came out for about £5. It's now worth about £20k or so. I sold it for a grand many years ago, which was a lot back then, but still.

I suspect there will always be a degree of value, but if I'm honest (and perhaps a touch morbid) I suspect the current peak interest in our era of models is because may of us are probably 40-60 ish and may have some disposable income.
Yep, I agree. I've noticed the prices for 5th and 6th going up as the baton gets passed. I need to go through all my duplicates and non-sentimental bits and get shot before they're all just ancient junk.

I totally relate. I sold off nearly all my comic books in the early 2000s. I had a lot of Bronze Age Marvel goodness: a robust collection of Iron Man (3/4 of the original run), complete runs of ROM Spaceknight and G.I. Joe, nearly complete run of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell of the Kree), plus lots more. Maybe 1500 books in all and I only made like US$300. I also sold all of my Rogue Trader Eldar at this time, as I was “growing up”.

Of all my interests, comics hold the most significance to me, as both a touchstone to memories of a happy childhood and as a stable lifeline during some dark times. I wish I had never sold those books. Not because the MCU hit and comics like those now go for stupid amounts, but because they were a part of what made me.

"ROM, Spaceknight" and "GI Joe: A Real American Hero" are two of my favorites, some of the greatest comic books ever, and they were toy licenses.

In the end it's all trinkets (can't take it with you and all that). I sold all of my stuff off 25years ago to a local market trader who would've sold it to young Warhammering / AD&D types. That includes rulesets not just the Lead pile collected since circa 1984. I sometimes regret it of course, as some limited edition Citadel lead and rarities in there, and seeing the sold prices nowadays. HOWEVER. I got good use of it all in my teens with mates so have very fond memories whenever I think about it too much. So the bitterness soon goes away... :D

I dumped almost all of my childhood oldhammer collection on eBay in the early noughties- painted and unpainted. I figured I wasn’t coming back to the hobby (doh!) and we were living in a tiny flat so space was at a premium. Prices were rock bottom then (50p a miniature) and I used to toss in feebies when I was sending them out just to get rid.
Value wise, selling off pretty much a full slaanesh army for pennies was bonkers with hindsight, but it’s some of the painted figs that I really miss.
