(not really)

I admit, the desk grabbed my attention too. But I can fleeping come to BOYL a lot for that kind of scratch, which sounds a lot more fun than even the coolest of cool desks.

Next time I'm in London maybe I'll go visit the site it once occupied.
The history of that churches 'ghost' site alone is worth a visit - and an association with Shakespeare and his globe theatre partners buried on the original site, etc. Very interesting background on its rebuilding, the link to Churchill, etc. Thanks for the link. Intrigued

No offense to John Blanche but.. I would make do with a print. Or even though he is retired, maybe open to commission to create a new slightly different version.

It's not BAD art just.. I'm not sure I think it's worth the price

It's always so hard to price things like that. I imagine it would sell for whatever it was offered at. If it was priced at £500, or £5,000 in a heartbeat. £50,000 would probably find a buyer without too much difficulty. Hard to know once you get out of the tens and go from "car prices" to "house prices". It seems a crazy amount of money, but I'd not be surprised if it does sell for something silly. Alas there are people who have done well with deep pockets and they need something to spend the money on. I mean the Internet puts Henry Cavill's net worth at $50M and he's into his Warhammer and I imagine there are a good number of business owners and others who share our lead habit. Realistically I'd have thought it'd be in double digits thousands at most if I were actually trying to guess an honest value.

The pity of that is it'll disappear from public view, not that I think it was currently on display at Foundry, but it has been in the past. Then again I suppose the vast majority of the old art is held privately so I suppose it's not unusual. I wonder if there is a small chance GW might purchase it for their own museum? - I mean it is a bit of their history.

As ever something is worth what someone will pay for it. Are half those ebay blisters really worth what is being asked for them - nope, but if you're in no rush to sell and eventually a sale is made, well I suppose it was worth that to the buyer. Perfectly fine for it to be worth less or more to another buyer.

Tbh I feel the same about Tolkiens desk, it's not going to make me a better writer, it's just a desk.
You won't know that until you try to write something on it however ... it might ! ;) Actually with the little compartments it'd make a pretty nifty painting desk, although knocking over the Nuln Oil would probably cause a fatal heart attack.

Well if anyone wants to console themselves they can swing by and see my John Blanche (which fortunately did not cost me six digits) and use my desk (fourth generation of the family to use it) to write a postcard home about the experience! Might even offer you a cuppa and biscuit! :)

I have no clue who Henry Cavill is.. an USA chat show host? name has that ring to it..

When you think about it, most 'famous' art is in private hands and rarely on public view so.. yeah..

I have no clue who Henry Cavill is..
Fairly well known current British actor who is probably best know in these circles for playing Superman (2013 Man of Steel) and Gerald of Rivia (Netflix Witcher adaptation). However he's also a big 40K fan and was (is?) set to exec produce and start in the GW/Amazon 40K television series should it ever get off the ground (my understanding is he's rather keen to keep to the established lore of 40K and has clashed with the Amazon production team, but I've not seen much news recently about it).
