GW is going to ressurect the Specialist Games

Including Epic. I really preferred the old formula of Wh40k for small scale battles barely above skirmish and Epic for typical tactical scale.

I wonder if it will be good. May be interesting, especially if they are going to make a Horus Heresy game in Epic.

GW seem to be throwing a lot into developing the Specialist games again.

Their official website is advertising positions for Specialist Games designers, and others working in the same sphere.

If I remember correctly, the original epic game was set in the Horus Heresy. Adeptus Titanicus was a game pitting loyalist vs traitor titans.

Having read about this and the reaction over on Dakkadakka I wondered how the Oldhammer crowd would respond. What do you think? How does this effect us if at all?

Personally I would be surprised if GW produce anything amazing but I can't see any real downsides to them having a go other than the possibility that they could get aggressive with cease and desists on all the fan created content for games like Bloodbowl and Necromunda.

Yeah, I think that'd be the biggest shame, especially for something like Necromunda. A one off board game with a grid and generic gangs :shudders:

I dunno, Dread Fleet wasnt like that. BUt I guess dread fleet sucked! Really, its just going to be copies of space hulk. Look at theother 2 games, the assasins one and the new horus hersy. On boards, with squares.

Remember, GW stand on games is that they make models.

My eyes are still bleeding at the "you're copy will be...".

But more substantially, I think this is great news if it's action to what was said in one of their earnings presentations a while back which was roughly (as I recall) "we've been chasing new casual customers (e.g. the LotR license) and not paying enough attention to longer term gamers". If (that word again) they work at making and supporting a variety of games and not just wringing everything out of a few core brands.

Conversely, if it means retconning old, loved games to fit in with modern updates of the lore, or excessively impacting on fan material for the same where it previously had been left alone then it's not so good. But then I've never played any of the games listed in the announcement so they're probably not too bothered about what I think, and I'm probably not too bothered about what they do. I'd like to see Mordheim make a comeback - but (perhaps significantly) it's not one of those listed, and noticably all but Blood Bowl are 40k universe, which despite some of the lovely stuff I see on here I'm trying my best to remain away from (as I can't get anything done of the projects I'm meant to be working on!).

I thought I read in one of the many news posts that GW said the models would be Forgeworld produced. This leaves me wondering if much of the renewed support is going to be simply casting old molds in resin and giving the Forgeworld rules authors something to do, now that they've lost the Horus Heresy.

Lost the Horus Heresy D: ?
Let me rephrase that . Now that it looks like most game design for the Horus Heresy is going to be moved from Forgeworld to Games Workshop proper.

I feel like I should have an opinion on it but don't really. I'd like to see the old BoFA 10mm miniatures back, but I don't think that's likely to happen. Will have to see what they produce!

I do think it's a bit odd that GW renamed all their shops "Warhammer" then start selling products that are not Warhammer, but seem to come from some kind of worskshop for game design,

I'd like to see Warhammer Quest make a return. Just so long as it's really Warhammer Quest and not Age of Sigmar Quest.
