Greenstuff alternative for goat faces...?

Have you considered using a two part casting epoxy resin? Coz if you've got a mould then it would be perfect. Just pour it in & after it cures you've got yourself a hard plastic goat face!

I've cast up miniatures in the past with this stuff and I've been really pleased with the results.

How well does it retain detail?

Like it came out of the factory.

Honest, I cast up some old RT dreadnoughts, RT robots & I was in the process of doing this with some old beasts of nurgle before I had to pack up and move. The detail was perfectly replicated. Instant mold + two part epoxy = perfect duplicate.

BTW, I used a product called "Easy Cast" for the resin (a product from Australia). I'm sure if you did a bit of hunting around on the net you'd find some equivalent product in your neck of the woods.

Did you use any lube in the mold or just pour the epoxy right onto the oyumaru? Epoxy would be a nice option.

No lube, just pour, wait 10 - 15 mins for the resin to set & your done.

How is this even possible with instant mold? Did you make two part molds?

Yes, two part mold with a hole cut into one end to allow me to pour the resin in. What you would normally do if you were using a silicon molding process, same principal.

I've never had luck with that. I always get really funky mold lines.

Your probably not compressing the mold enough when your trying to get a cast of the mini?

Remember, "instant mold" is not a liquid medium like latex...... it has to be forced into every nook and cranny by compression.

Hi all readers.

*DISCLAIMER*

We have no problem with the discussion on this thread (in other words, there is nothing wrong being discussed here), but just thought it might be worth reminding folk that this sort of recasting should only be considered for personal use and we (of the oldhammer forum admin team) do not suggest or condone that anyone attempt to profit from this sort of recasting, as this would amount to copyright theft.

Thanks!

don't worry

I'm just making casts of my genitals for personal use

How does one compress the mold?

I better not discuss casting anymore, the administrators are worried about getting sued over this stuff.

Hi Optimus

We're not worried about you discussing this stuff - that's why I've posted a disclaimer, rather than a 'please-stop-discussing-this-stuff' post. As long as the conversation continues on its current lines (of personal use to solve some modelling problems) then you're fine. I don't want to stop this conversation, just provide a context should someone come across this later, that's all.
