Grass flock for hills or similar

I'm looking for grass flock that is closest in colour to the Games Workshop battle mat. Plain flock, not static grass or similar.

Cheers,

I always use Javis Scenics. You can look back through my 2021 painting log in the WIP forum to see if it's what you're looking for! But they make it in all different colours.

Was looking into Javis on Ebay but shipping for some reason is killer. Really don't know from where they pull out those quotes. I think I'll just simply paint hills in mix of green that is close to goblin green or battle mat. I do have hills covered in static grass but that static grass is all over the place. Regenerating I tell you.

Substitute for this is practically what I'm looking for.

I'm mounted on European Pigeon ( Little country that European boot missed hehe ). Yes, 17 GBP for sending bag of flock + 7 GBP customs ( Flock is 4 GBP )! But that's Ebay's fault because they got that global shipping program that, it's nice thing but, prices of sending anything are not under 15 GBP. I mean, for 17ish GBP I can send up to 2kg with priority registered anywhere on this planet, literally.

Well... Better not mentioning but two trees made sacrifice. There was a lot of little black "static grass' like hair. Well, I didn't like those so I separate most of it and after four balloons, one deaf ear and small trench on the carpet I call it a day.

This is substance and colour I'm looking for or at least I think I am hehe wood dust like.

Will try it out soon so I'll know better.

Oh that's nice! Yes, very close if not the same. Will try it out soon so I'll know better but they got plenty to choose. Some are not available but I'll contact them.

Cheers guys!

I've bought stuff from The Model Tree Shop before, nice people (and nice trees!).
I'll also see if I can dig out what flocks I have and compare the colours to my mat. I don't think I have much in the way of sawdust flocks however right now... :(

Just finished. I'll wait till it's dry so I can put it on battle mat. Will try to trim those black statics once is dry. I completely forgot to paint grass part in green hehe so it's on black primer.

Nice bit of terrain, those poor trees!

I did try a couple of photos just now, but the sun's a bit strong and I'm not sure the colours are very accurate. I do have two Jarvis coarse grass flocks (both foam based) JCG1 (no1 light green) andJCG2 (no2 mid green) and a mix of the two wouldn't be a bad match for my GW mat I think (looks like they have those colours in a fine range).

My old Citadel flock looks to be a fair match colour wise, but it does seem to loose it's colour quite quickly (when out in the light rather than tucked away in the drawer) - just popping some terrain down on the mat and it's not a great match anymore and some of that terrain was only based a year or two ago. The foams are probably going to be more colour fast than sawdust. The Citadel flock seems to be the only sawdust one I still have, all the others are either static grass or foams of various sizes. If I can find some more even soft light later I'll redo the photos. It has reminded me that I need some more fine flock however!

Cheers! Yes that Javis look very nice but as I mentioned, on Ebay it's murder. Will try to look elsewhere.

I'm a bit embarrassed for doing that to those lovely trees. But as they tend to leave that flock when I grab them or move them here and there I decided that I'll use two just to test and since I like this more then static grass they didn't go in vain hehe

Photographing something to show true colours is horror itself for me. If you photograph that scenery on the mat and if they got similar hue, then even if colour is completely off, they should be in similar colour even on photo.

This terrain is bit darker then it's on the photo.

nice work.
if you can mix up a suitable green, and have access to sawdust, i found it pretty straight forward to make my own flock for my treeman's folliage.

For future reference:

Jarvis No.2 Light Green Fine Turf and No.2 Mid Green Fine Turf alongside some old Citadel flock and on the Citadel gaming mat. Th mid green and GW flocks are very similar, this Jarvis stuff looks like it's probably sawdust.

GSP is only great for very large items, but for everything else it's a rip-off £17 to mail a 28mm figure to the US! If you ask, sometimes sellers would ship with another method and some don't even know that GSP was set as a default option. There are also some nightmare stores involving GSP, like a package opened at a shipping hub and re-sealed minus some padding, so someone profits off the shipping.

Have you tried Woodland Scenics? https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics ... /Landscape

I have a few flocked hills and took a lot of watered PVA to prevent shedding. If I ever get round to making terrain tiles, I'll cut up a teddy bear fur mat: https://www.killingfieldsterrain.com/.

Yes, GSP is good, as you mention it, for heavy/large items. Most boxes, like Magic, Warhammer starters and similar, usually are shipped for 25 GBP. That's not too much considering they're more then 2kg in weight but import charges are in the price automatically so you can't slide sometimes with customs.

In most cases still better then goldfishblue hehe Love that seller.

Considering opened packages, my friend told me interesting thing. They open packages and they put all together back so they make sure that all that's advertised is in so buyer couldn't complain to the seller that something is missing but, instead to the Ebay ( and you know how that goes ). That's what I heard. Don't know for sealed items but second hand opened, they do check. Also, what's the worst part is that GSP got contracted couriers for certain countries indirectly. In my case, GLS is courier that handles Euro Packet that is based in Germany I think. So if in your Country certain courier is known to be careless then you can expect wonders like I once did with GLS ( grill grease barbecue ribs red oily oil spilled across whole package and as luck would have it, it penetrate through and damaged mint Warhammer 5th edition starter! Bloke that delivered this package told me that boss told him it's OK, no damage done? ).

Will check them and store locator for Europe. Thanks!

Those Killing Fields mats are amazing, I think I saw them once before and was very tempted. Must now go and summon up all my willpower since I don't need more gaming mats!

Since I have a few other bags to hand: Couple of Woodland Scenics and a bag from Footpath.

Until I saw mention on Facebook, didn't know of Goldfishblue's reputation, as I had purchased from his eBay store before and the shipping was around £4.00 to the US. Some of his prices are high, but there is a "best offer" option and sometimes works out to be cheaper than what US sellers charge for single OOP Citadel figures - $20 for a ninja?!?

I've had UK sellers imply that I'm a crook for asking if they'd ship using Royal Mail small packets for 2 or 3 figures instead of GSP at £15+ - something about people in the US being con artists!

If you Google "ebay global shipping program a scam", you'll read plenty of nightmare stories and Youtube videos involving Pitney Bowes, the company that handles GSP packages to the US. Not only do they open up some packages, but they don't re-package it carefully and sometimes remove extra padding or replace the shipping box, so they could profit off the postage.

Here's one of those Youtube videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35ntO9rmDzw
