• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

Also if anyone would prefer a different title do say (since we'll probably carry those titles over to the voting)

Please amend the title you gave mine to either Archon Giant or better Woodhaven Giant, that is the manufacturer or the Range name. Thanks

Better? I'm soon to turn 50 and have failing eyesight. My best painting days are far behind me. (Should have put more effort into my hobby 10-15 years ago.)

But I do enjoy it when I have a moment to set up the temp paint station, just don't have time to work to improve with toddlers to care for.

Thanks for the encouragement though chaps.

Same - I just got glasses and realised how bad all my old paint jobs are! Now I can see again...

I am contemplating throwing my hat in the ring, even though my time before the deadline is limited. I have 3 semi-big models in mind and have to choose one of them (all are related to the theme "mounted dwarf").
Once I have decided I will create a thread for it, or perhaps this thinking process could make a good start for the thread..hmm..

Edit: Here is my thread!

GG 2026 Thread 'Kallstrom and the gilded greenskin's colorful competition'

Greetings!

The beacons are lit, and a goblin calls for aid. A competition - the Golden Gobbo painting compeition 2026 - is to be held, and on the 20th day of december all those that answered the call and lifted a brush in defiance will be judged by their peers.

However, everyone that joins the competition and manage to display something before the allocated time is over is a winner in my book, so the judging part is to me mainly a ceremony to highlight and celebrate all those that holds their miniature aloft for others to awe. Nevertheless in the spirit of competition my wish is that...

'Competition' is a very strong word for it. 'Good excuse and motivation to get started on a fun project with a group of like minded people giving encouragement, with some light voting at the end after drooling over pictures of fantastic models' is probably nearer the reality, but doesn't trip off the tongue quite as easily 😆
