Golden Gobbo at Oldhammer Day? Remote Competitors?

Howdy all,

On Erny's announcement for the "Bring out your Lead" event he mentioned that there might be a Golden Gobbo Contest. I guess this is the first I had heard about this as a possible event during the weekend. If this is to be I would like to suggest that that contest be opened to us sorry saps stuck on the wrong side of various oceans to compete. As disappointed as I am that I will not be able to attend the event in persons ( :( ) I would be happy to paint up and send over a figure to compete in my stead.

What do you think...can we make this happen?

Cheers,

Blue

It would be nice to include you foreign types in some way.

Could we have an overseas category that we could vote on over the course of the day/weekend - hosted on this forum?

I'll mention it to Andy Craig. He was offering to come up with prizes if interest was high enough. I expect he will cater for anything if the interest is there. Its a good idea, though.

I'd be happy to participate in some category not involving large dragons or dioramas. I think physical models shipped is the way to go. Instead of appointing one poor fellow to have all remote entries mailed to him, I think each contestant can arrange for their own transport and return by contacting an attending Oldhammerer of their choice.

Perhaps we could have a seperate catagory ... 'Johnny Foreigner'.

noun
(British, informal, pejorative) 1.a person from a country other than those which make up the United Kingdom.

Just to give us Brits a chance against the beautiful blending the rest of the world seems to have mastered.

Seconded!

If we're shipping models (I suggested doing it by interwebz to save you chaps postage but I agree it'd be great to see the minis in the flesh) over would it be best to send them all to one person or would it be easier to spread the load by each entrant picking a UK Oldhammerer to post their entry to, who could then bring it along, register it and generally look after it?

It's all the same to me, if it's you. =) If people arrange for their own transports they might feel more comfortable with it (asking someone they trust and all that). If anyone have problems to arrange for reception and return of a competition entry, I'm sure someone would be able to help after a quick post on here.

With Gaj's efforts of spreading the word about the Oldhammer event...I'd like to pick up this conversation again. How can we make this work? I'm fine with shipping a model to someone who is attending...lord knows I've shipped models to most of you at some point over the last couple of years... :? So I don't have any concerns about "security" of figures...Except for maybe Chico...there is something wrong with that boy... anyway...what can I do to help forward this discussion or implementation? I really want to be involved even if it is from a couple of thousand miles away!

Cheers,

Blue

As Blue's entry for this is winging its way over the World Pond to me and my own entry is slowly edging its way to the front of the paint queue I thought I'd best see if there was anyone else intending on entering?

I wonder if one of the Ansells wouldn't mind casting a critical eye on the entries and picking a winner if they aren't too busy?

Phreed - If you're still planning on getting something painted up I'm happy to bring your entry along too.

sssshhhhh....If I'm the only entry I'm guaranteed to win!

I hope that box arrives soon...starting to make me nervous :?

Cheers,

Blue

Got my eyes peeled for it!

Besides if there's at least one other competitor my defeat at your hands won't seem quite so crushing ;)

I totally forgot about this. I probably wont get a chance to get one painted and posted but i'll do my best.

Are there any rules? Catagories? etc?
Have I missed it somewhere else.
Or can we bring anything we have painted? .... spined Dragon?

Awwwwhhhh, completely missed this until now... and I've a title to uphold! Anyone willing to receive an entry by post and carry it with them to the competition? WITHOUT a) claiming it's yours, b) 'accidently' losing it, c)trading it in for magic beans, or whatever your fancy!

I'm not entirely sure anything concrete was ever organised in terms of a theme. I would assume the rules are the same as previous comps.

I'm not sure what Blue has painted up, although I was thinking along the lines of a single infantry type miniature - all I'll have time for really!

Fimm - I'm currently waiting for Blue's entry to arrive so I don't mind taking yours down too if you like. Magic beans sound mighty tempting though... ;)

No, nothing was ever discussed about Golden Gobbo at the Oldhammer Day. It was one of the early ideas that never really went any further than an idea. With all the contributors running games there was no one to take charge of this one. Should be fairly easy to organise on the day though - put models here will probably be enough.

This topic has got me thinking about listing the concrete games that are occuring over the weekend but this thread is not the place for that.

Well in the absence of any rules I'll jump in.

How does a single infantry figure of your choice, any range, any vintage sound?

I'm sure there'll be a spare table we can use to display the entries and if we can press someone from Foundry into the role of judge all the better. The prize - eternal glory in the annals of Oldhammer and that nice self satisfied feeling you get when you win something!

Unless someone wanted to mock up some kind of trophy? Might be nice to see if there's any of those lovely free dice going spare for any of our competitors from foreign climes who can't be there on the day...

How about a completely open catagory? Anything goes. Best model of weekend type thing! We could even try and get the Mighty Avenger to judge it if he is there?
