• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

I do like the C15 range, but my ebay habit of the last month or two must be stopped so I shall just make do with admiring some online. Very nice, lovely orc'y green you've got there.
Thanks I've been working on a recipe for a while and think I'm happy with this one.

@Sneekid: Hold on a minute... has that sneaky orc stolen pieces of armour from nurgle worshippers? Phenomenal painting on the shield btw!

Indeed! Well spotted! Central element to their fluff is that they put their armour together from the remains of several chaos warbands who killed each other

I'm sure many will recognise this guy.. though I'm not sure if Citadel ever did one based on the art..

A couple of things didn't quite go to plan and I'm not 100% keen on the base but there you go. I wanted to try to go as close as I could to the original art. The figure was originally a painting contest figure at.. Knightmare I think, I've ended up with a couple of them and they are nice. and while I didn't mean it, The colours fit well in my growing Chaos group.. though he won't be one of the ones I rolled up.

Yeah! Eavy Metal!

When I was painting this model I noticed I had somehow made him look like Sean Pertwee.

So I changed his name from Hans Vogel, which was his planned generic famer name.

He is now:

Johannes Pertwee the old farmer who claims to have killed a werewolf that was attacking his farmhouse, and he could not escape as his cart was damaged.

Now I have committed myself to making his cart, his farmhouse, his family and getting some werewolves so that I can play out the game and re-live his backstory/fluff/lore.

How is that for the required plain background

Wow, such a characterful face and really subtle highlighting! Well done.

Ok - I can’t miss out on the fun - so here’s my entry. Classic C17 Rambones.

My oldhammer painting this year has been a bit slack but I did paint a fair bit of Mordheim (which is middle hammer to my mind), lots of Harlequin Dr Who and a few other bits and bobs. Skeletons keep on slowly coming though…

Lovely skeleton, entered by the skin of his teeth no doubt! ;) Not quite sure if I'll find time to base and photograph a model tonight to get one in myself, but I do have an Orc that somehow I missed when I did my big batch and I finished up whilst doing my Goblins that is recent.

Race is on ... five hours to go ... static grass has just gone on, will the PVA be dry enough to dot a tuft or two if I leave on the radiator? Then do I dot pupils on the eyes and where did I put my camera for that matter !
Dont melt the base on the rad!!

Lights, SLR, Action ...

Well with a couple of hours to go I'm going to throw in this Fantasy Regiments Orc. Not my finest work, I was about to say it won't win any prizes, but that seems the wrong phrase for entering a competition! Anyhow very happy with him, one of those I had to repair as it was missing a weapon - this sword is 3D printed and you can see a few layer lines I failed to address. Decided to leave the eyes as I'm still trying to decide for the rest and I'm on the fence still. Likewise on the shields, at some point I need to do a massive batch of shields for some of these orcs, but that day is not today (although I'm nearly done on the four Goblin shields to finish out that unit).
